Question about Samsung LN-T4671F 46 in. LCD Television

1 Answer

Three-year old 47" Samsung LCD. At first, some pixelation, usually correctable by turning TV off then on again. This situation lasted months, getting slightly more frequent each week. More recently, the TV would take considerably longer to start up (multiple clicks). But with patience (turning off and on again, sometimes many times), I would eventually see a perfect picture. This phase lasted several weeks, but progressively to more off-on attempts to achieve a perfect picture. Then, as of last week, even with patience, the best outcome was a good picture containing a few pixelated squares. Now things have completely gone bad: when cold, the TV usually displays vertical lines (multiple colors, more in pink tones); after a few attempts to restart, it will fail to even produce the rainbow lines (no picture at all, clicking sounds going on forever, or until I unplug it). Help with diagnosis please???

1. the motherboard might be bad and you will need to replace it. 2. or The power supply is bad
Chances are if its making clicks the power supply is bad and you will need to replace it. Which makes sense because constantly powering the tv on and off will damage the power supply or possibly short out your motherboard. These things usually cost about 200 bucks to fix at a local tv repair store.

Thanks for your insights. I'll get it checked out. Do these symptoms (pixelation developing into vertical rainbow lines) clearly point to the motherboard, or are there several parts in lcd displays that would be expected to give similar symptoms? I'll consider myself lucky if the repair turns out to be 200 bucks. :)

The rainbow lines are probably a separate issue and most likely a problem on the motherboard, sometimes it could be a loose connection in one of the motherboard wires or it could be that the actual motherboard is going bad, either way, more than likely if you replace the motherboard it should fix both of your problems. But I would have the tech guy make sure that he does not charge you or put a new power supply when you dont need one, some techs will tell you its both and charge you for both with its only one or the other, sometimes it could be both but you need to show him you've done your research so you dont get overcharged.

Did this resolve the issue with the TV? Can you tell me if these parts are something I can get myself and replace? (I'm comfortable with soldering) Where would I get them?

Hi andrew, its not a big problem.. Decent TV. but the pixels are DEAD. that means you have to recover them by fixing the LCD. this would cost you around £40-60 for a 32 inch TV. hope this helps!

Samsung only makes TVs that last 2 years, mine also has the same problem. Throw it away and buy a cheaper disposable TV, despite all the hype Samsung is just another cheap and nasty manufacturer who uses its customers as product testers. Why do you think they keep changing model numbers every week ?

It sounds like the LCD controller board problem, usually if you cool it down the problem will go away, and comes back when it heats up again.

Periodically the screen will start turning green, then worsen.

Per Vizio's webite( linked below), as long as you purchased the unit from an authorized Vizio dealer you have a one year warranty. You would need to contact vision to determine if the problem is a warranty type issue.

I think it could be a faulty diode on the power supply board. If you can check this for yourself otherwise call out a competant technician. Good luck.
