I even tried to bypass the pilot light and it does light but then goes out. When it lights there is a sizable inital flare-up but no contant flame. If you still believe this is the same problem can you please tell me how to go about making these repairs and if you know how much the parts would cost, that would be great.

    Thank you!

Thank you! Can you possibly tell me how tricky a job this is? I'm pretty good at fixing things but I've never worked with gas before.

I appreciate your time and effort.

The flame dies because the air/gas ratio is too rich You need to open the unit and adjust the air hole to make it smaller and check the jet for dirt. No parts to buy, just some careful work to do.

Hi,

Sounds like a dirty pilot orfice. Or you may need to replace the thermocouple. The thermocouple generates voltage from the heat of the pilot and energizes a magnet in the gas valve and when you release the button it should stay on. Once the pilot is established, the main burner should work...There is no primer function

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

Check what type of fuel, if using butane on cold days it will stuggle to stay alight, always use propane on outdoor patio heaters, propane will work in vvery low temperatures. If using propane check for leaks, do a leakage test, found this patio heater specialist site very useful.

Pilot on my patio heater will not stay lit. goes out when i release the knob

If the heater is the same as this type of patio heater and it lights on pilot and goes out it is generally a worn thermocouple. These are designed to switch off the patio heater when something is wrong, changing one fixed 90% of the problems. Sometimes it can also be caused by a worn tilt switch but always start with the most likley and work backwards. Found this site very useful, patio heater problem solving page.

Nexgrill Won't Stay Lit

Is this a patio heater or a grill? In either case, the first thing to replace is the regulator. If that doesn't work, I need to know if it is a grill or heater.

Burner on Charmglow patio heater will not stay on.

believe it or not, the propane tank may be too full. The vapor space is taken up and you have very little vapor. Run some warm water over the tank. The garden hose may be enough but if you get no frost line the water will need to be warmer. The warm water causes the liquid fuel to turn into vapor. Do not use boiling hot water. Another thing is oening the valve. Most propane tanks have safety valves. If the gas escapes faster than a normal rate, the valve closes. Open the valve slowlyand lt it burn for about 10 minutes before opening the valve further. It will get better as the fuel is used up and the vapor space in the tank increases. In real cold climates a heater blanket, sleeve is used tho keep the bottle warm. The vapor also creates the the needed pressure to move the gas through the system to the burners. Good Luck-Ned_

Kirkland outdoor heater will not stay lit

The thermocouple is bad. That is the part right next to the pilot light that sense's the flame and hold the gas valve open to the pilot. Take the old thermocouple off and go to hard ware store and get a 18" one of what ever length you need and replace. 5 dollar part.

Nexgrill patio heater won't stay lit

I called Nexgrill technical support at 1-800-913-8999. They are sending me a new thermo couple to keep the valve open when ignited - so the patio heater will stay on. I needed to give them the serial number (inside the propane tank door) and fax them a copy of the receipt.

Hope this helps.

There must be a blockage in the hose and regulator or your large tank may be checking and not allowing the unit to stay lit. Remove the large bottle. Let the gas line equalize for about 30 seconds and then reattach the bottle. Very slowly, open the knob on the large tank and I mean very slowly. Did I say open it slowly. The new OPD propane tanks often have a very touchie excess control valve that won't allow enough gas through if opened too rapidly. Now tray and light the heater. If you still experience the same, get a technician involved so they can inspect the gas pressure.
