Clean as much corrosion as you can from the contacts. If you've already done so then the corrosion has spread to the wires connected to them and will need to be replaced. This means opening up the unit and unsoldering the old wires between the contacts and the circuit board and replacing them with new ones.

You'll need to take great care as a flash capacitor can store a lethal charge, and you'll also need good soldering skills to both ensure that the new joints are sound and that you don't put too much heat into the circuit board causing damage.

The actual repair though just costs a couple of pieces of wire and a bit of solder, so is very cost effective if you have the tools and skills.

My Samsung laptop won't start with or without battery. A power/charging light flashes red once when battery is inserted or power cord is inserted. That's it. No other form of response.

From your description it sounds as if your power cord/supply is bad. And there is no charge in the battery. Your laptop should run with out the battery installed which would lead me to believe the power supply is bad. Make sure you are using the correct power supply.

If the corrosion was from alkaline batteries you may use a damp cloth. But before you do that, try using a wooden pencil with a red rubber eraser. This is likely to remove the corrosion without risk of introducing water inside the flash.

The power supply may have an issue. I would leave it charging in the off condition over night and if the battery takes a charge and the system starts up when you turn the laptop on, that will prove the power supply ... that may well recover as the capacitors re form.

What are the common causes of stainless steel rusting or corroding?

The most common cause of rusting or corroding is an Improper cleaning of your stainless steel. This could include not removing all the dirt, not thoroughly rinsing your stainless steel after washing, leaving some soap behind, and not thoroughly drying your stainless steel, allowing the iron in your water to react with the oxygen in the air leaving spots behind. Try avoiding the above in order to prolong your stainless steel life.

I have a vivitar dvr 528 and i cant get it to come on.what should i do

Most common problem is having the batteries installed in the wrong sequence, look on the battery holder and it will show where the positive "+" is suppose to go. If the batteries are in correctly check for corrosion both in the holder and inside the flash unit. If there is any corrosion this must be cleaned out and it'll power up. Do not blow in the flash with your mouth the corrosive material may blow up into your face or eyes.

Will not turn on

This is likely the cause of an internal screw that has come loose, it's very common on the G9. A great place to get help with this G9 problem is: camerasandparts.com since they just specialize in these powershots. They not only have the fix available but they have the correction so this never comes back, that comes with their no power service for the G9's automatically. I hope that helps, that's the place if you need help with a powershot, best of luck

Hello,

Please connect an external monitor, and turn on the power. If it is working, then it is video and LCD problem.

If not working on external monitro, try to remove the battery, then unplug AC adapter. Then press and hold power button for 30 seconds. After that, put battery back and re plug AC. Turn on the power. If still not working, and no display on screen, Then the motherboard need to replace.

I have three, all stored for years, and now they all do not work. Is there some internal battery that needs replacement ( beyond the regular batteries) or something that I can do to revive them? Thanks!

Flashes stored a long time often suffer from capacitor failure. The first thing to try however is leave the batteries in for a few minutes powered on to see if they will charge. If this doesn't work, then they'll need professional repair.

Your problem is likely due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced or the camera may require professional repair.

SB-20 flash wont turn on

Same thing happened to me. I just took a screwdriver and tried to scrape all of the corrosion - I was able to get enough off for it to work. If that didn't work, I would've gone ahead and put the door in a glass of coke and leave it in there for a day.
