This dryer has a broken belt switch. If the drum turns then the belt is not broken but the broken belt switch could be. The start switch itself could be the problem. This video shows how to get into your machine:

If the belt is ok I suspect it would be easier to replace the start switch first. It is so easy to do . remove the knob by pulling it straight off. Then lift the locking tab and give the switch a slight twist. It comes right out. Their aare 4 wires 2 small ones and 2 large ones. You can't mix em up or connect em wrong.

SOURCE: Kenmore 600 series dryer, has

Hello, I just repaired the exact same problem a few days ago. The problem is either your even heat board or the motor relay. There are two pink wires with black tracer on the motor relay on the right side. You should be getting a reading of 48 VDC when the push-to- start button is pushed. If you don't get 48 VDC, then you need to change out the even heat board. Hope this helps! Chances are, it's just the motor relay and should cost you under $20 to fix. If you have a technician look at it, then he should charge you under $100. Thank you.

GE dryer starts but..... stops

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.
Thanks/Mike

The button the drum stops. When I push the start button the drum starts turning but when I release

it's the start switch on the motor . it might be bad or the spinning weights on the motor shaft may be gummed up with lint
you would have to take out the motor and check out the spinning shaft weights to make sure there clean and move to disconnect the switch when the motor starts.

my guess when you get in there you will find lint ,string and all such stuff all wound up around the shaft keeping the switch from working

Spin the drum by hand to see if you feel resistance. The belt may have broke.

Dryer heats but drum does not turn when the start button is pushe

You need to check the drum belt. With dryer empty, reach in and give it a spin. If the belt is good, it will stop in 1/2 turn or less when released. If the belt broke, it will spin almost a full turn.
