Yes - been using this MP500 for 2 years OK now but suddenly states inner cover is open when it is NOT ! I tried resetting, on/off, removing cartridges and starting over again etc etc but nothing fixes - guess is a firmware bug.
Canon help is too slow so is this a throw the printer out moment and blog how useless Canon are all over the web ?

I have the Pixma 600 and me too, the printer was working perfectly until I tried a cartridge that wasn't an original new Canon. Ever since it takes forever to get positioned and then it finally gives the inner cover error message. Just invested in a bunch of "real thing" cartridges and it's still funky. GRRR!

You do not say what model of printer you have.
When you open the access door, the print heads normally move into the centre. Does yours?
If not, that is the problem
The only suggestion I can make then is to get a cotton bud, and a thin oil [like machine oil or cycle oil]
Just moisten the bud [not dripping wet] and slide it along the printer rails. Problem is you cannot reach the rails where the print head is stuck! Do as much as you can and leave for an hour or two.

Getting 5100 error if and when a print job or scan is attemped. Earlier it flashed ;print cover is open' message. Now i am getting 'check printer' message

error 5100 refers to the carriage not moving correctly. Open the main cover and take a look into the printer engine and behind the carriage (the bit the print head and ink tanks click into) you will see a long thin blackish plastic strip (called the encoder strip). Clean the encoder with some soapy water on a cotton bud.It is very delicate so dont press ******* it otherwise it will snap. Check there are no paper scraps stuck anywhere inside the machine, especially at end end of the carriages travel. You will probably find some paper in there.

Good luck

Error 6500 - CHECK PRINTER message - how do I fix it

The 6500 error code is a logic board error code. The PCI Bus error is detected by the ASCI. Sounds like it needs new logic board. but i suggest you to first of all you can try to reset your printer -

1. Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).
2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer.
3. Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in.
4. Turn the printer back on. If this works you're done, if not try the next step.

1. After confirming that the printer is powered on, open the paper output tray.
2. Open the top cover and wait until the print head moves to the center.
3. Open the inner cover and check that ink tanks are properly seated.
4. Properly seated
5. Press down on each ink tank until a click is heard.
6. Close the inner cover and top cover

if reset method not works for you then you go for the new logic board replacement .............

Getting "inner cover is open" message

The inner cover is a flap on the inside in front of the carriage when it is at rest when the cover us open. You had to flip the inner cover down to access the ink cartridges.
Open the cover. The inner cover is in the center and need to be flipped up.
Good luck.

Mine did this too, and the lens cover only opened half way. I used a cotton wool bud to push the lens cover back and held it back until the lens clicked into place, turned it off and on and then it was fine

I have a Toyota Scion with a Pioneer T1805 that is giving me a Error 4 Message perodically which does not allow me to use the CD player. Help Please!

The most common problem of error messages is the lense and the roller. The roller is that moving back and port bringing the lense set,had already many dirt, that stock up of moving the roller. You better take out the unit from your car and open it .You clean the roller by using a lighter fluid or desame kind of that fluid and clean the lense with a cotton buds ,soak the cotton buds with a little plain water and after that , use a dry cotton buds to dry it out and in the roller take the old grease in the roller and replace it with a new grease .Use a type-A class grease. If you finish this all,i assume you that performance will be better.

When attempting to print, I receive an error message which states "Inner conver is open. Close the inner cover and press OK". However, the inner cover is closed...? I have opened and closed...

Are you looking at the canon error window picture that show up on your monitor: It is the front inner flap you see after you open up the two top "covers". I forgot I opened this one looking for a paper jam. The printer cartridges would not even move to the front with this flap opened. After I closed the inner flap it all works (after opening and closing the top two "covers" many times!

Phaser 6100 - lever unlocking error

This printer is same as Samsung CLP-500. So the problem is the same: Contaminated transfer belt sensor.

Do as follow:
Lift transfer belt assy from printer(Drop down back door 90 degree, press white button, lift top cover and release 2 locking levers, grab handle, pull the belt unit out), turn upside down & rotate plastic roller until small clear "window" appears along one edge of belt. Clean both sides of clear window with cotton bud. on same side as window, remove 2 screws securing flimsy plastic cover to gain acess to sensor, (follow red/black wires)remove a screw and pull out "U" shaped sensor(light transmiter and receiver), cotton bud and blow away dust on slits on inner surfaces of sensor. Reassamble and everything should be ok.If not, senser may be too contaminated, clean slits vigorousley with cotton bud, or maybe you just need a new sensor.

The theory is that printer detect transfer belt by transmit light through the clear "window". If either window not clear or sensor is contaminated, light will not reach the receriver part of the sensor, printer will report such errors.

Good luck.
