Sounds like the printer is fine. Reset the the printer driver software in your computer by reloading it from the software disks that came with the printer or download it from the manufactures website. Then Reboot both the printer and and computer. Make sure to reconnect all the cables between both units to make sure all the connections are good:)

Mfc240 c gives unable to print see troubleshooting guide 51 I have tried all I know to do

The message Paper Jam may appear on the display if the Brother machine is not feeding paper correctly, paper scraps have become stuck in the print head path, the paper is not loaded properly in the paper tray, the jam clear cover located in the back of the machine, is not installed properly or the PE Actuator is missing or damaged.
To solve this problem, please follow the steps listed below:

Note : images shown below are from the representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.

  1. Disconnect the machine from the power supply.

  2. Turn the unit around and remove the Jam Clear Cover from the back of the machine by grasping it at the Center and pulling it straight away from the rear of the machine.

    20090417_91.gif

Caution DO NOT place the jam clear cover face down as shown in the illustration. You may damage the cover and cause paper jam.

    20090417_92.gif

  3. Look for any paper scraps, jammed paper or foreign objects in the rear of the unit. If anything is found, remove it.

    20090417_93.gif

Be careful not to touch the feed roller.

  5. Remove any remaining or jammed paper from the front of the machine.

    20090417_96.gif

  6. Look inside the machine, where the paper tray was installed and locate the white PE Actuator.

Caution Do not stand the machine on end. Ink may leak from the machine.

20090417_97.gif

20090417_98.gif

The PE Actuator looks like a 2 prong fork or tuning fork and is located near the rear center of the machine where the paper tray slides in. It is located between the 2 gray rollers.

  • If the White PE Actuator is in place, continue to Step 7.

  • If the White PE Actuator is missing, please contact Brother Customer Service from "Contact Us".

Using both hands, use the plastic tabs on both sides of machine to lift the flat-bed scanner until it locks securely into the open position.

  • Carefully examine areas 1 and 2 at the left and right hand ends of the platen area for paper scraps.

  • These scraps may have become saturated with ink and be difficult to see.

  • Use a flashlight if necessary to check thoroughly.

I had paperjams and i pulled out the paper from the front of the printer. I have done this more than once. I then found out recently that it was best to remove the back and pull ot the paper. Could...

I always recommend that paper jams be removed in the direction the paper would normally travel. Forcibly removing jams generally will not damage rollers, as the hardware tend to cause paper to tear before anything breaks. Removing paper jams in the wrong direction however can break one-way "finger" paper path sensors occasionally. If you are not experiencing a jam every single print, you are probably in good shape.

As for cleaning the rollers, if you have taken the rear door off the printer you are halfway there. You should be able to turn the rollers in one direction or the other by hand. There are plenty of products out there to clean rubber rollers (I use Blow-Off Rubber rejuvenator) but rubbing alcohol on a cloth can work as well. Turn the rollers to get at the entirety of them and scrub along the length with an alcohol dampened rag.

I have a problem. When I turn on my printer, the first symbol from top constantly blinks and it doesn't print anything. How can I solve this issue?

Welcome to FixYa!

If the first symbol on the top is constantly blinking as shown in the picture below, It means that a paper or a foreign object has jammed your printer.

jas247_22.gif

Jam can occur in 3 areas. Please refer to the image below.
1. Internal Areas
2. Input Trays
3. The Output Bins
jas247_23.gif

To clear the jam, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord. Be careful not to tear the paper in case of a paper jam. If a small piece of paper remains in the printer, it could cause additional paper jam.

Let's clear out the Internal Areas first. Push the button to open the print-cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge. To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover it with a piece of paper. Please refer to the image below.

jas247_24.gif
If jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_25.gif
If no paper was jammed inside the print-cartridge door, open the Output Bin or the back door
of the printer. To avoid damaging the printer, do not attempt to clear a jam in the top output bin by pulling the paper straight out.
jas247_26.gif
Again, if jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer.
If no paper or foreign object is visible, close the back door of the printer.

Next, let's take a look at the Input Tray. (We have already taken out the print cartridge.)
Lift the Tray 1 roller cover, grasp the jammed paper or foreign object, and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_28.gif
If no jammed paper is or foreign object is visible, open Tray 2 and see if a paper is visible. Again remove it slowly with both hands. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_29.gif
Close Tray 2.
If no jammed paper is visible in the second tray area, pull down the upper media guide (we have already taken out the print cartridge). With both hands, grasp the jammed paper and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_30.gif
Close the upper media guide and return back the print cartridge. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_27.gif

These steps should clear out any jams that you are experiencing.
Connect back the power cord again and turn on your printer. You should be able to print now.

Thanks for using FixYa. Keep me posted.

I tried printing and didnt realize i had papers sitting on top of printer it printed and crumbled papers as it was printing now i have it blinking error , i check for paper jam , its all clear i cant get...

See below. It's the steps after 7 that is most likely part of you issue. Refer to your user guide (or see below for a link to an online version) for illustrations.

  1. Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. Some of the jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  2. Set the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
  3. To prevent damage to the printer caused by static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes inside the printer.
  4. Close the front cover.
Note: Do not put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in at this point.
  5. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.
  6. Pull the jammed paper down and out of the printer.
  7. Open the back cover (back output tray).
  8. Still looking at the back of the printer, pull the tab toward you to open the fuser cover.
  9. Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
    HOT SURFACE
After you have just used the printer, some internal parts of the printer will be extremely hot. Wait for the printer to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the printer.
  10. Close the back cover (back output tray).
  11. On the drum unit you set aside, push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Clear the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
    CAUTION
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once.

To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the roller part of the toner. Try to keep you hands, fingers and everything else away from there.
  12. Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the green lock lever will lift automatically.
  13. Open the front cover. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer.
  14. Put the paper tray firmly back in the printer.
  15. Close the front cover.
  16. Make sure that the Error LED is now off.

Paper jams when printing and paper is being pulled in sideways

Hi, Follow these steps:- 1.Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred. 2.Turn off the printer. 3.Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper. 4.Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge. 5.If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it. 6.If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam. 7.If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. 8.Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on. 9.If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path. Thanks! mannu_rakesh
