Hi, if you are able to jump across the gas valve coil and the valves stays open and heater keeps working, the main coil that you are by passing is faulty. This is all that it could be as this is how we test parts and switches is by jumping them out. This will tell you that the switch is bad, in your case the coil is bad. I wouldn't leave it jumped out it is dangerous, it needs to be replaced, the gas valve.

Be sure and check for any broken wires around the gas valve. You are sending 24 volts to the other side of this valve to energize it, so you know when it is calling for heat the control board or module, depending on the age, is sending power to the valve to fire, but it doesn't because you have to by-pass the main coil not the pilot coil, so replacing the valve will solve the problem as internally you have a burned out coil wire and you are just completing the circuit when you jump across it. Very easy to trouble shoot.

I just replaced the pilot generator on a jandy lite2 and the pilot stays on but the burner will not light. I am getting over 500 millivolts at the gas valve. Any ideas? Thanks

500 millivolts is good to fired that heater, the minimum is 250. disconnect the wires connect to the gas valve be very carefulland see if the pilot stay on, if stay on get a piece the solid copper wire and jump the gas valve where the wires from the safety switches were connected and see if the heater fired. but before that check everi wire and safety switches for resistem ,also you water pressure switch, but also for any loose connection .

We jumped the high limit switch and now everthing stayd on except it wont stay lit

There might be a sensor in front of the burners. Looks like a metal rod. Make sure power is off and carefully use a wire brush to clean the rod. It will only have 1 wire to this sensor.

I replaced the transformer and the thermostat and the gas valve still doesn't open.

Not knowing what make or model of equipment, I can only offer some basics. We are going to have to start the troubleshooting at the thermostat. Take the two wires at the thermostat and jump them together, If nothing; take off the thermostat wires at the transformer and jump the terminals R and W together. If nothing, you will need a test light or multimeter to see if you have voltage out of the transformer. You can test if you have a bad gas valve by applying 24 volts to the gas valve directly. Make sure you have a pilot going so it will burn off the gas if the valve opens. If the gas valve opens and you get ignition, check the wiring for any bad wires or wires on wrong terminals. If there is a pressure switch, jump that out once the inducer motor starts running (if you have one). Re-post with make and model and we can narrow down some other diagnostics for you. I am going to assume you have no blockage in the gas line or are out of gas. OK?

Pilot stays lit but wont fire up

Make a jumper wire and jump the two terminals where the thermostat wires into the furnace, generally R and W terminals or TT terminals. If unit fires, you have a thermostat or thermostat wire issue. If it still does not run, check for 24 volts at the gas valve. Could have a bad transformer, bad gas valve or the relay for gas valve is bad.

My new wall furnace was working fine, shut off now won't come back on. It has been installed for 4 days. The pilot light stayed on, the thermostact has been checked.what do I check?llgh

Jump the two thermostat wires together to test the thermostat. Next, jump the terminals at the heater to test the thermostat wires. If the unit fires, you have found your problem. If it does not, you will need to turn the thermostat to the highest setting and check for 24 volts at the gas valve. If yes, bad gas valve, if no, bad transformer.

The pilot goes on and stay on but heater doesn't the thermostat its ok

Take the two wires going to the thermostat and cross them. If the unit starts, you have a bad thermostat. If it doesn't, at the heater put a jump wire across the terminals where the thermostat wires are connected to. If the unit starts, one of the wires going to the thermostat are broke. If it still doesn't start you may have a bad transformer. Check for 24 volts AC across the two terminals on the gas valve. If yes, bad gas valve. If no, bad transformer.

Floor heater won't light

At the gas valve on the furnace, jump the two connections where the thermostat wires attach to, I think TH and TP may be marked on terminals. If it lights, you have bad wire(s) going to thermostat. If it still refuses to light, you may be looking at a new gas valve.

The pilot stays on but the burner willnot operate

thormopile may be gone or your wires or switch have bad connection, try taking a small jumper wire and with pilot lit , jump out the valve on the top and bottom screws on the gas valve located inside bottom door. no danger of shock seing this is low voltage and cannot shock you , you can't ever fell it. if unit lights then check wires at switch and gas valve

Pilot will light but main burner will not light

if burner lights after jumping valve you have something wrong in thermostat loop. disconnect the 2 thermostat wires on gas valve and use multimeter on continuity setting. if all wires ,connectors and components are good, you will get a tone.since you have jumped out each component in thermostat loop with no success ,i would suspect a bad wire or oxidation on a terminal .

Your problem is the pilot generator where the flame is by the burners. This needs to be repalced. That is what is causing the pilot to go out and not start. It is a flame sensor and also tells the gas valve when to release more or less gas.
