This is usually an indication that there is a possible problem with air flow. Look to be sure that the evap fan is running and in the proper direction. If all checks out, look to the expansion device. In most units with TXV's, replacement usually resolves the issue.

Freezer side not freezing


Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... clockwise slowly untill the compressor stops or starts. I need to make sure the timer is not stuck into defrost. I want you to leave the compressor off for up to 35 minutes. If the freezer compressor doesn't restart bt then simply again turn the timer clockwise slowly until it does and then stop turning. The defrost timer is location 23 in this photo HERE If you need to turn the defrost timer like this to restart the compressor then replace the defrost timer and this will resolve the freezing problem. If not we move to the defrost heater location 14 in the sme photo=> 216254600 Defrost Heater

Victory fs-2d-s7 Not defrosting properly suspect defrost heaters are bad where are the heaters located and are they easy to replace.


The heater is usually attached to the evaporator. I test it by disconnecting the ends and powering it with 110 volts using a cord with alligator clips on the end, or just using an ohmmeter and testing for continuity. If it is good test the limiter for continuity while it is frozen, it will be open when it is at room temp. the last culprit is the defrost timer.

Evap coil not defrosting? Any ideas


There are only two items involved for defrosting; the heater coil, normally located quite close to the coolant coils between the walls and the defrost timer. In your commercial unit, I'm not sure where the latter is located; in residential units, it is located behind the removable front vents and is a simple switch operated by a small synchronous motor. These are contained in a small housing, often with an extended motor shaft that can be turned manually with a flat-bladed screw driver.

Freezer won't freeze



If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.
The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. It just stop freezing, how to I check if it is the compressor problem?


. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running.If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Freezer is covered with frost, I defrost it with a hair dryer and the next day it is back to the same as it was before

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

You can use a hairdryer to speed it up but you need to fix the defrost sytem.
