Attention, SD TECH I read your 8/25/10 post on convergence problems. I have an RCA P61960 and went through the remote menu and the neither the red or blue would move at all. The picture has a fishbowl look to it. How do I locate the IC chip to determine the STK number? Thanks!

This model does not use STK CHIPS. Look on back of set where model number is---what is PTK number---ie: PTK 169, OR PTK 195

Listen carefully, this chassis rarely has convergence problems.

With set unplugged, remove back cover and note small circuit board mounted well above main boards at the bottom--it is about 3 inches deep and 10 inches wide.

Your problem is on that board, it supplies voltages for convergence.

I can tell you exactly what parts to look at--board has about a dozen diodes---Two are much larger than the rest--one of them is shorted--I have seen this in over 100 of these sets.

Do you have a ohmmeter? Used to check fuses etc.

That board is only held in with 4 screws and has about 5 or less plugs----mark the plugs and test the diodes----the two you are interested in are on the right middle of the board---they must not read like a fuse----one has shorted.

Let me know and if this helped, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Rca p46813bl convergence problem bowed in the

OK., I know this set very well. It almost never has a convergence problem.

With the set unplugged, remove the back cover--there is a small circuit board mounted ABOVE the main boards--it is about 10 inches wide and 4 inches tall---On the far right side of it are several DIODES---two are much larger then the rest--what usually happens is one of the large diodes is shorted--5 dollar part---the board only has a few plugs and 4 screws that hold it in---easy to remove--check all the diodes(the two large ones first)

If either of the large diodes read like a fuse you FOUND YOUR TROUBLE.

LET me know if you need ANY help or Advice--I am here to help people---I have seen several sets identical to yours with the problem you describe.

RCA P61960 projection screen. no picture, no sound. tries but shuts off.

It will depend on the Chassis number you have but it sounds like a bad Deflection module or a bad Convergence power supply module. The Convergence Power supply module is on the left looking from the back mounted above the deflection module. On newer models the picture tubes can short and put these sets into shut down mode ( Three Trys). Start by unplugging the CRT modules off the neck of the tubes one at a time. If it doesn't come on you have eliminated the tubes. There will be a Red and Black set of wires from the deflection module to the convergence power supply module. Unplug it. If it fires up then it's the convergence power supply module. If not it will probably be the deflection module. The flayback transformer is a common problem along with several bad caps towards the front of the board. Let me know if this fixes it.
