I have an IBM thinkpad T30 and when the laptop is NOT plugged
into the wall using the AC adaptor, windows battery icon shows the
laptop as still being on AC power. It always shows it that way and
always says charging even though it can't possibly be doing so. Plz, let me know. It would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I have a T43 model 1871 f1g
I don;t know what happened, but it shows that it's always plugged in the AC power, even if it's not!
The bad thing in this is that... it doesn't beep when it has low batery, it shuts down when doesn't have any power left

there is a switch in the plug end to the back of your comp its like a little swinging door that when you unplug out of back of comp this switch engages battery now if you unplug just from wall its going to see these 2 things the doors not shut but i have to keep working so it sets aside the plug still recognizing it of course but running off the battery trying to still find out why the powers not there but the plug is still plugged in and it will continually search until it reaches its falt point of dead battery
its like a battery backup for your system it gets unplug but wants to know where the power is
now in reference to the little swinging door i call it its a power over relay in your comp for some reason its not closing properly to allow battery to run by self
this is usually just a switch that needs adjusted in the motherboard configuration

its not on inside its a switch to go from power to battery its called an inturupt switch this will come off the plugin socket some laptops are being ran off a jumper switch io switch which in side if you have your laptop specs for mother board will show it follows along the solder lines to the battery inputs there you will see io jumper switch and how to disable this from showing
