Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Duet Ht front loading washer. It is not draining water out of the tub. This is what I have done so far: Drain hose is not clogged. Drain filter is clean. Drain pump sounds like it is trying to drain (working properly). The water will not exit out of the tub into the initial drain hose. Could something other than the filter area be clogged? What about the hose that leads from the tub into the filter? Help me! Thanks in advance

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, you are indeed looking in all the right places when you said... "What about the hose that leads from the tub into the filter?"

You may have a "stuck" or "sticky" back flow ball inside the bellows from the tub to the pump.

It will look like this if you first undo the large clamp...

I have a Whirlpool Duet - c60c9f0.jpg
**watch when putting this above clamp back on you are over the "lip" of the tub, you don't want it slipping off when full of water...potentially quite a mess.**

Then pull the bellows from the tub, you'll now be able to observe the back flow ball...usually pretty "gunked" up and dirty.

This may cause it to stick, hence inhibiting a proper drain...

Take the bellow's right out and clean it in a sink thoroughly under hot water and white vinegar or mild detergent.

I'd suggest this for the pump as well if you haven't already through your fairly thorough diagnosis process.

If you go to all these length's yet the pump continues not to drain the unit I would be looking to replace the pump.

I've had in my experience, a pump which appears to move the impeller while observing it empty with the filter out so I can see it, yet when under the weight of the water against it will not pump it out.

Hope this helps move you forward and in fact solves the issue. These are all my own images which I capture on the job, so they are "real world" scenarios, not just some hypothetical possibilities.

Let me know how you make out, I'll watch for your progress report.

Good luck.

Duet Sport HT WFW8400TE Washer: Whirlpool Duet Sport HT front loader is stopping b...

First check your washer plug to see if the connections are tightly screwed. Next check your filter if you haven't for long.

Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel under the washer door. Your filter door will be light brown. If you find a hose there it is to drain out excess water (water that could not be drained by your pump) After you hv drained unscrew the cap and remove all the junk inside. Have a large plastic bag to catch junk and water. Refit carefully after cleaning out. If not solved, something shd be blocking your pump, check this out

How abt a nice rating for the free help? Thnks

Whirlppol Duet washer will not drain.

It sounds like you may have a kinked drain hose or an obstruction in the hose coming out of the tub to the pump. The pump filter screen may also be clogged.

Are you getting any error codes?

My whirlpool duet will not drain or spin

The drain line is probably clogged. Maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. In this case it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump.Remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. In case it clean there, check the outer tub port- open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, try to remove the clothing through the port.

I have a Whirlpool duet HT front loading automatic washer, it's not draining & last time it did this a repair man came and showed me how to get underneath and drain it, but I don't remember how

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Whirlpool Duet front loader to clean out the trap:

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at:

Prices vary between these sites, so shop all of them for the best deal.

NOTE: Make sure you also check the drain hose and the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. Small articles of clothing can commonly get lodged in this area.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

How far should the drain hose be put into the waste pipe?I was painting behind the washer. I did not notice that I may have pulled out the drain hose, but during a wash cycle water started to spray...

Most have a hooked shape which can't be inserted too far. If yours is the flexible type it should be from 4 to 6 inches. If it's too far it can siphon the water out of the tub during the wash.

My whirlpool duet washer will rotate to balance

If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off and "F/02" is flashed.

NOTE: After 4 minutes the "Sud" error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed.

To solve this:

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.
  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

Whirlpool Duet HT Front loader

actually the code is probably fh which indicates no water in tub ..possible causes would be water siphoning out due to low drain or tight fit in stand pipe ..if these are ok suspect flow meter ..the small round object on left with 2 small hoses attached 1 from fill valve other to dispenser...also possible pressure swith on right side ..suspect flowmeter 1st if it has one
