Question about Toshiba 56HMX195 52" HDTV DLP Projection TV

1 Answer

I have a toshiba 62HM95 DLR TV. I was advised by Toshiba that I needed to replace the lamp to correct my issue. However the replacement lamp worked for 1 evening and I am now back to my original issue. Here is the issue. When I turn on my TV I get no picture but have sound, within seconds I get a loud whistle and then a green flashing light with a steady red light. Please help!

This could be a sign of the color wheel failing. This is part of the light engine assembly and is not sold separately as far as I know. My most common source lists the light engine as out of stock. (The last quote I had was ~$600 for the assembly.)

The cooling fans can also cause a noise as they fail. However, the red light would be blinking in that case.

I hope this helps.

I had a similar situation and ended up changing out the Ballast that turns the lamp on with help from this site. The replacement ballast was only about $65 and took about an hour to replace. I would recommend trying this first. If you find the right solution on this site there was a link with detailed instructions with pictures that was extremely helpful.

I replaced the lamp on my toshiba 42HM66 and that worked for about 2 weeks. I ordered a new lamp and replaced it. Now the lamp light blinks amber and then the power light blinks green at about 30 second...

You will need to check if the output supply going to the lamp is good. If not the ballast will need replacement. That model is actually famous for haveing ballast issues. You can get the replacement ballast from www.tvcircuitboards.com they also assist with installation assistance if you require it.

I was given this model tv. The green and red lights on the front are flashing. Says to replace bulb and close lamp cover correctly. I am missing the lamp cover. Is that going to be a problem?

U mean the Lamp door cover?Yes?Tv might work, might not.Don't know never tries to turn the tv on before without a Lamp door cover close before. There is a blue safety switch though must be press down when the Lamp door cover is close.Test it out.Why don't u just take a piece of tape and tape that blue safety switch down tightly, than turn on the tv.If the tv message that said close lamp cover correctly disappear.Than yes the tv will work, without the lamp cover closed. Now u just needed to do a replacement of the tv projection lamp only that all.

62HM 95 TOSHIBA. HAD THE PICTURE JUST GO BLACK THE OTHER NIGHT. I HAD A LAMP FOR IT GIVEN TO ME BY A BUDDY IT MAY BE A USED ONE NOT SURE. REPLACED BULB TV CAME BACK ON BUT PICTURE IS TO DIM TO WATCH. DONT...

These Toshiba DLP's were lemons.
There was a class action lawsuit in the US and Toshiba were forced to issue a recall on the lamps. Toshiba replaced the first lamp for free but when the lamps are burning out every 6 months at a replacement cost of $200 these tv's are expensive to run.
Sounds to me like the light engine has failed. This will probably be a $800-$1000 repair.
Scrap it and take the hit.

I own a Toshiba 62HM95. It's about 5 years old. It was turning off and on, but now nothing. Any idea what it could be?

I think the problem is coming form your lamp if you have not replaced it before but if you just recently replaced it then I would have to say you have a bad ballast here is a store that carries your lamp

Toshiba model number 62HM95 62' makes grinding noise

SORRY, This is from the authorized Toshiba parts center:

"The color wheel, lamp fan, lamp fan holder are parts of the LIGHT ENGINE only." It means the wheel is not sold separately and there is not even listed in the breakdown for the set a part number.

A replacement light engine (optical light engine) retails for 456.00 list and is sold on an exchange basis only.

Picture seems to be alot darker than before. toshiba 62hm95

I just replaced a lamp in a Sony LCD projection that was just over a year old and it was bad. It was a VERY dim picture. You have a DLP but, in either case a dim or dark picture is almost always caused by the lamp.
