I have Whirlpool ET22RK fridge freezer with top freezer.A few months ago the ice maker stopped making ice.With the bar in the down position it just did not make ice.Then about two weeks ago it just started to make ice again for a few days and but now it has stopped again.There seems to be ice in the maker but it does not drop it down into the tray to allow for more ice to be made.I am not sure what to do---i have opened the front cover and i see a wheel which it says not to turn by hand so i have not touched it.Any ideas?

You may want to check that your water line isn't cracked.

Ours cracked and now we need to replace our floor. The water line is too close to the compressor which heats the plastic tubing and makes it brittle. Our refrigerator is 9 years old. Model #TPX24BRYFBB

We had a similar problem and there was a broken/stripped gear in the icemaker. A&E replaced it to the tune of $150 or so. I don't recall exactly but I recall my husband thinking he could replace the entire icemaker for the price we paid to repair it. The gear make the ice tray flip out the ice once frozen. 1. Check to see if water is flowing @ the water inlet valve @ the rear of the unit. You can remove it and clean if out-then put it back in service. You can purchase a new valve -- maybe @ home depot.

The Ice Maker Tray had a small plastic piece break off. This piece aids the tray in bending to dislodge the ice from the tray. Bosch does not just sell the tray, you will have to buy the whole ice maker assembly. You will need to order Part # 0422 from Bosch. I was not very happy about having to spend $112.00 for this whole assembly when all I really needed was a simple ice cube tray. 
Save the $112 and remove the ice maker. Buy Ice at the grocery store.
