2004 Honda VTX 1300 Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 01, 2010

I installed a set of used cobra pipes on my 2006 vtx 1300. I should say now it hasn't been ridden in 2 yrs, just started occassionally. I started it up one day and white smoke started billowing out of the exhaust. I shut it down and there was fuel pouring out of my exhaust. I removed my air filter and the intake housing was full of fuel. any ideas as to what happened?

It seems the fuel has flooded through the carbs from sitting. it may need the carbs cleaned and new fuel in the tank, and a new air filter element, there is also a possibility fuel has made its way into the sump, so check the oil level, or change the oil if it is 2 years old.
This can all be caused by a leaking fuel tap, and the fuel getting old and leaving a residue in the tap and carbs

Dear Sir I just purchased a used 2007 Honda vtx 1300C and it has a flat spot at low engine rpm through all gears. Are there any common issues with this engine ? The bike is all stock. Original pipes and...

Rich, there are no recurring issues with the vtx, but one thing i have seen a lot with the vtx's is when they sit around and especially when they are for sale and get started a lot with out being ridden the plugs get fouled easily. i would suggest you check and replace the plugs if they are carboned up and black. also you may want to get a fuel additive to help clean out the tank and carb, i like the lucas fuel conditioner myself.

What jet goes in my vtx 1300 with cobra slip ons

if all you have is slip ons, leave the jet alone
you could benifit from a tweak to your A/F screw
If you put on an open air intake you would benifit from a carb tune

ref VTXOA and the VTXcafe

A factory Pro carb kit using a 215 power jet and a 58 pilot with a neddle in the 4th notch will run with open pipes and open air box.

There is a mod called the "scar" mod that will allow your factory parts to be tuned pretty stinkin good.
Also check out Glens permanet A'F screw for the VTX

Good Luck

Bike is back firing and black smoke is comming out of pipes on indle. It has Cobra speedsters exhaust system.

Black smoke could be unburnt fuel .Check your air cleaner unit it may need a change .And also check that your plugs and you have a spark on all plugs .

My vtx starts, it's cold natured, so I start with choke on. Starts Great, but then almost immediately quits and will not restart for 4 to 5 days. Have used starter fluid, starts, burns off fluid and quits...

it is and it is not. the pipes are too big. you need to have the heads looked at as well as you may have burnt valves going on. i know the big pipes look good. god do they look good. get the 1 1/3 in or the 2 in od pipes and put the big pipe sleeves on them. keep that big pipe look and always have bright shiny pipes. you do not have the proper back pressure in the exauhst. have your cylinder pressure chrck as well.

2007 vtx 1300 R idles good ,starts good - but back fire when accel

a back fire is to much fuel going down the exhaust and igniting, if you changed the exhaust pipes or allterd the air cleaner you will need to get it set up on a dyno . the air flow meter could allso be playing up a dealer repair really.
