Question about Microtek ScanMaker 6000 Flatbed Scanner

Open Question

I have a microtek 6000 scanner that I've had for three years. I really love this machine. However, recently when ever I try to scan with it the scanner light just keeps pre-scanning the bed. It doesn't actually show any document after scanning it on my monitor, it just keeps scanning over and over. When I let it scan and move to another program (such as an internet browser) the machine stops scanning and just sits quietly. But move back to the scanner program and it continues to scan like a crazy scanner on crack. I thought it might be a software problem (corrupted software) so I deleted the entire program and reinstalled it from my installation CD. The same problem occurred. I downloaded a newer version of the software but that didn't help either. I have not upgraded to a newer version of my OS (Mac 10.4.11). To make sure that there is not any other software that is clashing with my scanner I created a new partition on my hard drive and uploaded a basic OS 10.4 and installed the scanner... but it continues to pre-scan over and over. I am convinced it must be a hard ware problem but I believe the scanner is still able to scan images... so I do not know where the issue lies. Is there any way to solve this problem? I am willing to tear the thing to pieces to fix it myself. A franken-scanner is fine with me! Thank you!

When you say -'normal' prescan you do mean you get an image? If this is so I would remove all software. Do a disc clean Reboot the computer Re install the original supplied software-ignore for the time being any down loaded upgrade, Come back tell me what you have

Scanner will not scan

that's the specific driver. download and install that. if you find that vista programs can now 'see' the scanner, but still don't 'know what the scanner is', then you can uninstall the driver again, and then go back to the exe. file and right click on it. Then click Properties. There is a chance that you will see a Compatibility tab. If you do, click that and choose XP compatibility mode from the list, press Apply, then ok. Then install it and reboot again.
If it still doesn't work, then either there is no Vista compatibility for your scanner, ie it's too old to use with anything later than xp, or you need to clean the pc and the registry up with something like ncleaner, which is free and a really handy program, i swear by it.

hope this helps

Try doing a fresh reinstall of the software for the scanner and then adjust the color ratios durring the install. I have found that every one to two years it is good to go through and refresh all my drivers for scanners printers ect.

Microtek Artix 120f Negative film scanner

I went to System, devise manager and then hardware. Found a problem with the fire wire connection.I checked the wire, it's six pin as recommended. So I have to assume it's a connection issue and not mechanical. It also has a scuzie 50-50 pin connection, might try that too if all else fails. Now I'm going into the Registry and un-installing all the microtek programs. I will then reinstall.. Then I will buy a single FW connection card and and as good a wire as possible and try isolating the connection so there is no conflict with another program. Then light a candle. If no go, it's a $1700.00 loss and my last Microtek purchase. The support from this company is beyond bad!!

Microtek is famous for making a good product that will last you a good while if it is maintained and taken care of. Yet their lack of support for said products is lacking. Try to uninstall and reinstall all the software for the scanner. Make sure before you uninstall that you still have the install disc. If not then you can find the drivers on the Microtek site.

I bought the pro version of the 8700, used it about once a month--very light use. When it died, I found that Microtek won't even sell parts! I agree, NEVER buy another Microtek product! This thing cost me over a $1000 and after one year, NO support! Any company but Microtek.

Check the scan with normal flat copy. If that scan is OK it is not the scanner.Have a rethink about how you are scanning If the the test scan comes up odd Come back with what software you are using to with thew scanner[Image editor etc.,] Do more tests before junking the scanner - that will be last move.
