'No video setup' sign keeps popping up and the monitor doesn't connect to my laptop. What to do please?

Does the monitor work with any other pc/laptop? If it does, try pressing one of the Function keys (i.e. F3, F4, etc) that toggles the external display option on your laptop after you've plugged into your external video port.

Is the port VGA or HDMI?

Connect external monitor to laptop - how do you do this - ie which keys to press to convert it over to the external screen once connected?

Almost all laptops, especially those made within the last few years, have the ability to connect an external display, such as a CRT monitor, flat panel display, or Projector, and have the display sent to that device instead of to the laptop display.
Connect the monitor, flat panel, or projector to the laptop's 15-pin video connection on the back of the computer as shown to the right. Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display.
The key sequence can vary depending on laptop, however is often either: Fn + F3, F4, F5, F8, or F9. This means if you were fore example to press and hold Fn + F3 at the same time it'd switch between your laptop display to your external display. The function key will often be labeled as CRT/LCD or have a picture of a monitor on the key or close to the key. Unfortunately, the keys pressed to switch displays is dependent on the model and manufacturer of the laptop. If none of the above key sequences work, consult your laptop documentation or consult your laptop manufacturer.
Some laptops also have the ability to have the display on both the laptop and external display or a single display at a time. Laptops with this ability can switch between these modes by continuing to press the same function keys until in the mode the user wants

Connect laptop to external lcd monitor

This laptop has a blue VGA port. Plug your monitor into it. You might have to adjust the BIOS to recognize the external device.
Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display. The key sequence can vary depending on laptop, however is often either: Fn + F3, F4, F5,F8, or F9. I have just plug in a monitor to my laptop and I don't know what button to press to make the monitor work? Can you help!

Here is the user manual: http://office.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/compaq/presario_700.html

Try Fn (function key) and F5 or F6 key, it will let you toggle between external monitor only or both external and internal. Just read the manual.

To enable the Wireless LAN Fn + F2

usually the wifi function key has the universal antenna symbol with radio waves emanating from it.

The manual says the other hotkeys are:

Fn + F3 - Standby
Fn + F4 - External display
Fn + F7 - Reduce brightness
Fn + F8 - Increase brightness
Fn + F9 - Play / pause media

Am using compaq presario cq50 the device display doesnt show anything but other than than display screen everything is working.. properly...

Your laptop is probably working with an external display.
Try to change the setting, by pressing the function key (usually on the bottom left of your keyboard) and the Fx key with a monitor (I don't know exactly which key it is but usually is F4 / F5 or F6).

Which function key allows to switch to tv

Hi there,
You need to press hold the FN key and press the F4 function key once which toggles the display to the External Display source like the television connected along with the LCD of the Notebook.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed again, the display will dissappear from the LCD of the Notebook and remain only on the external source.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed third time, the display will be back on the LCD of the Notebook and will not remain on the External display source.
Here are these details in other way :
First time pressing FN + F4    ---> Display on LCD and External display
Second time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display not on LCD but on the External Display
Third time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display back on the LCD and not available on External Display (Normal position).
Below are the details of what the Function keys in your DV1000 Notebook work :
fn + f1 Opens Help and Support Center fn + f2 Opens print options window fn + f3 Opens default Internet browser fn + f4 Switches the image among displays fn + f5 Initiates Standby fn + f6 Initiates QuickLock fn + f7 Decreases screen brightness fn + f8 Increases screen brightness fn + f9 Plays, pauses, or resumes an audio CD or DVD fn + f10 Stops an audio CD or DVD fn + f11 Plays the previous track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + f12 Plays the next track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + esc Displays system information.* (*To clear the system information display, press esc.)
Hope this helps...

External monitor for amilo pro v2030

hi
when the external monitor is connected hold down the function key " f n " ( which is located 2nd on left of lowest row ) and then press either the F4 or F5 function keys on top line....the one that has a small icon like a rectangle or tv screen on it ....it has usually 3 toggle positions so if it dosent work first time then just press the same key again (still holding fn key) until it allows the monitor to get the signal.....if F4 dosent work then go thru the same sequence with F5 but depending on the laptop model it could be any one ...F3/F4/F5/F6 the usual suspects....
hope this helps
