Question about Philips 51PP9200D Television

1 Answer

Popping, sparking, snapping

I have a Phillips 51" projection 51pp9200d/37 and it suddenly went out and started making a popping noise and sparking in the rear where the power cord goes into the set. I unplugged it and repluged it and saw it sparking as described. What is the problem and how difficult is it to fix (what is cost if known). Thanks

My Philips 51PP9200D/37 tv won't turn on. The lighted power button stays lite but nothing else happens. Could this be the Flyback transformer?

It could but it could be about 50 other things as well. You have a voltmeter, and know how to use it? going to need a service manual as well.

Philips projection HDTV 51PP9200D/37. Convergence problem

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.

Loud popping noise and spark coming from red projector

I would guess you have a High Voltage Leak at the Anode Lead Cap where it Mounts to the CRT. This is not a area to mess with You are better off calling a professional to fix it. It may be a little difficult to confirm if it is a intermittent problem.
Hope this helps,

We really didn't do anything but the popping noises suddenly stopped as quickly as they came on. Perhaps the machine had a bad case of hiccups!!

Panasonic PT-53WX54 What is that popping noise?

A loud popping noise, like a sharp "snap!", is usually caused by high voltage arcing. Somewhere in the high voltage system an insulator may be cracked or loose, such as the plastic around the flyback transformer or one of the rubber cups on a picture tube. When the high voltage arcs, it momentarily drops and the picture could go out for a split second. High voltage is dangerous in projection sets so allow a qualified tech to service it for you.

Most likely the noises are from the plastic cabinet expanding and contracting.
