Look in front of back tired on frame, not deck, there are. 2 rods, 1 on each side, rods look like a L, it's going through a little eye opening, push it backards, mower should move. If rod is pulled through opening and locked in, mower will not move..its a safety. Feather on mower

When running the mower, it shuts off immediately when trying to engage blades(pto)

Hi Digger:
I've two possibles come to mind for you to check.
1) Engine OFF - Make sure that all of the blades and pulleys can turn freely.
2) Engine OFF - Double check belt routing. Move engage lever ON/Off and look at what movement happens. It may be that the belt is on the wrong side af a mounting flange and binds when engaged.
Cheerfuls.

Blade won,t turn

hey john bruce . what type of mower . there could be many reason . there blade clutch there a cable you have to hold down to start the mower could be causing it not to turn or the engine could be seized if so remove the oil ffrom the mower remove the spark plug tie spark plug wire away from any metal . get some :PBblast or trans fliud pour a cap ful down the spark plug hole leave the mower ( if small one vertical for1-2 days if there a blade clutch tie up with shoe lace to handle remove blade or use chnk of wood and big hammer hit the wood to see it blade will move if does try again the allow fliud in spark pug hole to loosen the blind ( understand when that blde may loosen and the mower may run it will smoke badly do not run on fast and after it run and hopefully loosen up change oil and good luck . i been in the lawn maintenance and repair for 43 yrs . if it work you may get a shorter life out of the mower of maybe not bruce

Honda HR215 hits stump - still runs and cuts but engine vibrates when running IF the BLADE IS NOT TURNING.

you could have bent the blade or the crank look at the blade then remove the blade mount and spark plug turn on its side and turn the engine over and look for crankshaft runout

If it runs, make sure the oil level is correct and continue to run the mower.
The blade should be a little tight, you are turning the engine.

I have a model 13aq609g063 troy bilt riding mower. It has a 18hp briggs & stratton, 2 cylinder, ic engine. the engine runs fine, the bottom pulley on the engine for the pto belt turns when running, and...

Another possibility, is a broken spring or a tight/ rusted idler pivot arm.
with the engine off & the deck down, engage the pto & pull on the belt to see which pulley is the tensioner

When deck is lowered blades do not engage

Is the belt in place that drives the blades?
Is the belt at the correct tension?
With the mower engine off.....try to turn each pulley the belt drives and on the mower deck with the mower in up position and or down....do they turn a little......this is to check for a seized bearing on one of the pulleys also look under the deck for something stuck........ jamming a blade.
Also check for the mower belt safety system (which stops the blades quickly when disengaging them) that may be stuck in stop mode.
With the mower engine running.....have some one engage the blades while you look under at the belt system....is the engine driving the belt.....is the belt driving the blades.
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING......MOVING OR STOPPED while the engine is trying to drive the blades.
