SOURCE: Hi. I have a Dayton Air Compressor, operated by

I have a similar compressor from grainger. Same motor as yours with 10hp speedair compressor, however a newer model. The graninger number of my pump is 5z405. and can be seen at the link below:

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/SPEEDAIRE-Two-Stage-5Z405

If your pump looks similar then contact grainger and ask them for info relating to your serial number. Every time I call grainger for info or parts, they ask for the grainger number of the complete unit. These pumps do not change much over the years so maybe the info above will be helpful. Good luck

Whar does a typical serial number look like

The serial number will appear on the label that contains the manufacturer's name and model number. The label will also provide the voltage, amp, refrigerant type and weight and... the serial number. Here are examples:

Find a serial number

To find the serial number, if not in obvious location such as on the door itself, somewhat like on a car, you will probably have to pull the unit out from the wall, remove the back panel, which involves a considerable effort, and look for a serial number inside. There may be a separate serial number for the compressor/motor and for the refrigerator itself, as the compressor/motor may have been supplied by a subcontractor to GE such as Copeland or Temcuseh although GE did build their own I just don't know offhand in your case.

What compressor do i need

The compressors that come in units change from year to year and model to model. Depending on the age and type of unit, it could be a Copeland, Bristol....just about anything in the 2 ton range.

Best bet would be to look down and on the top or side of the compressor, you should see a series of numbers that have the model and serial numbers. The model would be the compressor you seek and the serial will help to determine the age of the compressor. Also be sure to look for a name brand such as Copeland, Bristol, Tecumseh, etc.etc..

Recently obtained an older piston air compressor with the following on the ID plate: ChargeAir, Model 3B30E30B, Serial No. B3230128. Who made this compressor and where can I get parts?

Energair 3B30E30B would be the brand. All you need to do, and those reviewing this post, is google the model number of most anything, this will in most cases bring up information about that product. In a general description: make, model and serial numbers are like identification tags and names on vehicles. Make being the brand name (Ford, Dodge, RCA, etc.), Model obviously being the name of that Make (comprise of letters, numbers or both) and serial numbers are like the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on your car or truck, each unit has one unique to itself. what im getting at here is you can look these things up just as if you were looking for an item for your car on ebay, the most important keyword being the model of your car. This strategy can be applied to almost everything that has a model number, simply enter the model number and/or any other keywords into any search engine like Google and there you have it, an internet full of information. Note: using too many keywords may not return any results, I would suggest starting with just the model number to be sure it can be found. I hope this helps.
