Make sure the speaker is rated for your system. 4,6,8 ohms Your speaker should be rated equal or higher than the receiver.
Also make sure the speaker wires are not shorted at both ends

I had onkyo 5.1 hometheater i cant raise the volume more than 40 how can i fix the problem ?

Hi,

It could be that there is a frayed speaker wire touching the back of the receiver and when playing at a low level the speakers do not require that much power, however when the level from the speakers increases more power is required and if there is a frayed speaker wire touching the back of the receiver there could be a short causing the receiver to shut down. A way to avoid the frayed wire is to use "Banana Connectors" that the speaker wires goes to and the connector will plug into the speaker posts. Please try the following to see where the issue is coming from. Have the receiver turned off, make sure all the speaker wires are labeled, and disconnect them from the speaker terminals. Turn the receiver on select a source that would give you sound if the speakers where still connected and turn the volume all the way up. If the receiver shuts down than it would need to go to a service center as it is an internal problem with it. If the receiver does not shut down, turn the volume down, shut the receiver off and connect one speaker and than turn the receiver on selecting the same source as before and raising the volume up. If the receiver shuts down, remove that speaker from the post and connect it to another speaker post to determine if it is the receiver or the speaker itself that is giving you the problem. If the receiver should shut down after moving that speaker you know it is a problem with the speaker or the wiring. If the receiver does not shut down, turn the volume down, shut the receiver off and connect another speaker followed by doing the previous test procedure. Keep adding speakers until you have them all reconnected to the receiver as long as it has not shut off while trying the test procedure. After determining whether it is the speakers or the receiver you would need to bring either to a service center to be repaired. To locate an authorized independent service center, check the dealer and service locator at our website: www.onkyousa.com or www.integrahometheater.com, Thanks, JT

Try changing surround modes - the center channel is not used in all modes. If that doesn;t work, check your speaker settingsw and make sure the center channel is not turned off

The problem is the audio output ic's, one or more channels has developed a short causing the safety shutdown to engage. The only solution is take it back where it was purchased and since it is under warranty it should be repaired free of charge if not a possible exchange.

No sound from center channel

If you have checked the speaker and wiring. Check the setup, the center channel could be off or it's not in a surround mode.
When playing a DVD through the receiver are the voices heard clearly in the front speakers? if so the center channel is turned off.

No sound from centre speaker on my Bose Lifestyle 8 series 2 system. I've checked leads and speakers by swapping them around. If it is the Acoustimass module which units are compatible?

Check your audio settings, via the on-screen menu. The center channel may be turned down. When set at -5 to -8, the center channel speaker may be practically inaudible. If raising the volume of the center channel does not solve the problem, then you do have a dead center channel. The system would then be in need of repair.

Center speaker channel

This sounds like a bad connection inside the receiver. A 5 minute fix with a soldering iron and about 30 minutes to get to it.
If you can solder you should be able to fix this yourself.

Power shuts off when I try and turn the volume up on the center channel. Center channel volume is very low and i can barley hear it. any suggestions?

Verify that you don't have a bad speaker in the center enclosure. Any change in there will cause an "impedance mismatch".  ...accordianman

Onkyo TX-DS474 Receiver shuts down after Standby mode.

It's going into a protect mode. The amp is probably shorted out. Disconnect the spkrs and turn it on. If it still shuts off, it's the amp, if not, it's the spkrs.
