Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer will not run. Light comes on inside but just stopped running. The timer knob seems to turn too smoothly until the off sections and then there is the normal clicking. What could it be?

Hotpoint side by side, freezer cold and frosty. Frig side not cold??

Signs of a defrost problem. Inside the fresh food section and behind the light cover you should see a small opening that leads to the defrost timer. Turn timer clockwise slowly until compressor and fans stop running. Leave everything in this position with fan and compressor not running for up to 30 minutes. Defrost should be taking place during this time inside and behind freezer rear wall.

Listen for signs of crackling or hissing coming from freezer. If after 30 minutes the defrost timer does not restart compressor and fans on its own then again slowly turn timer clockwise until they do start. If you need to do this you will need to replace the timer=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer If the timer is not the problem then the next two parts just may be the problem. The=> WR51X443 Defrost Heater Assembly that comes with a defrost thermostat as a kit. Let me know how you do with the defrost timer, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Maytag Dryer

HI,

If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.

Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:

  • The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)

  • The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.

This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

The knob on the right just turns (no clicking) so it does not seem to be selecting a time. now dryer wont start.

Check your timer knob. On these GE dryers I have found a lot of times the knob cracks where the stem of the timer goes in and the resistance of the timer will make ti slip internally rather than turning the knob. If the knob appears to be ok, then I would say you definitely have a bad timer on your hands.
Timer is part number WE4M271 and runs around $100 from marcone's
Knob is
WE1M654 and is around 18$

Good ;uck with this!!

Replaced timer module. Dryer did not run.

Check the voltage across the timer motor, make sure that you have 120 volts. If you have 120 across the timer motor, then it is bad. Also check your wiring to make sure you have wires in right place

Timer runs continuously - Does not stop at all

There should be a timer motor on the timer. That is most likely burnt out and will cause the timer to not shut down. Just replace the timer and that will solve the problem

Dryer continues to run.

look for a cool down thermostat on the fan body. this thermostat opens on cool, and is in the motor circuit, not the heater circuit as the other thermostats are. After the timer switches off the heater and motor, this thermostat keeps the motor running until the temperature drops below ~45C, drawing unheated air through the dryer. when they fail they weld closed and do not switch off

If knob does not move, there is likely a stripped nylon gear in the stepper motor for the timer
timer motors cost $~14 if available in your area, and attach to the timer body by two screws
rebuilt timers can be purchased at many parts stores, labelled as almost anybrand as many are interchangeable $~40
new timers are around $~60

Kenmore electric dryer won't stop running / no heat! 110.62512101

Without anymore info. is sounds like the timer motor on the setting controller (the main knob) is bad. The entire timer/control part is usually pricey but if its made to where you can just change the timer motor that will be less. If possible check the timer motor with a meter for continuity to be sure. the parts supplier will usually help you with this, if they are worth a shit.
