i also have the same problem only device manager will not recognize it.
the pc realizes there is a usb drive but will not show a folder in the
my computer folder... also the "safely remove hardware" pops up and you
can look at the gogears drivers in properties, accessed through the
saftly remove hardware icon... the drivers were missing so i tried
using the automatically find and install drivers option, it installed
the microsoft 5.1.2535.0 driver which didnt change anything in the
devices behavior. i tried using the update driver option through a
specific path to the new firmware release but that also didnt work-
    wrong format wouldnt accept.

    thanks,
    derek.

My HDD6330 just stopped connecting and working on 05/25/08. Windows XP, SP2. Media Player10. The player works fine for everything that is already on it. When hook up to the USB, and it tries to establish a connection, the little screen just freezes up.

any clues?

Sounds like the system files have been corrupted or deleted.

The HDD6330 is only compatible with Windows XP (With Service Pack 2) & Windows Media Player 10. If you have version 11, you will need to uninstall it to roll back to version 10.

Install and run the Philips Device Manager from the product CD.

Connect the player to the power supply and PC.

If the player is recognised by the PC, select the repair/restore option in Philips Device Manager, and follow the on-screen prompts.
This will format the player and re-load the firmware.

NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL TRACKS ON THE PLAYER.

If this doesn't help, then post details of what happens, and I'll try to help further.

Won't turn on

If your Dell Computer is running Windows Vista, it will not work with the Philips HDD series Go Gear.

If it is running Windows XP:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

Reset ti first, and see how it behaves. If that fails:
