If the re-chargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

The battery in my phone has suddenly started to "die" after 24 hours when previously it didn't need a recharge for 4 or 5 days. My phone is less than a year old. Does the battery need...

Remove the battery and clean the battery terminals , the terminals in the phone using a clean earbud. Now replace and charge the battery to the full, remove adapter and charge again. if the battery does not last more than a day then it is possible that the battery has failed. it can happen if your charging cycle was not systematic. Also check and see if the phone heats up as this can be due to some board issues.

Invalid Battery

Totally discharging the battery is the way to go. But what you can also do to use your phone in the meantime is this. Plug your charger into the phone withOUT your battery in. It will tell you "Unable to Charge." When it says this, put the battery in. It might tell you "Invalid Battery" a couple more times, but it did eventually say "Charging Battery" for me. After that, simply turn the phone on and it will return to normal. This is when you drain the battery completely. Once I did that, I did not get the invalid battery error again.
