Original XBOX error code 07

The only way to replace the hard drive is using a mod chip. You will also need the "config magic 2" program. The hard drive is digitally "locked" to the motherboard using the serial number of the motherboard and hard drive. If you change the hard drive you will still get the same error. Found out through Microsoft that code 7 is a HDD failure. Only wat to fix is to replace the HDD.

You actually don't need a modchip. You can do a softmod, but it'll take a bit of work, a new hard drive, and about $5 in parts from Radio Shack. Everything you need to know you can find here:
