Question about Saeco Incanto Classic Espresso Machine

2 Answers

If setting for brew strength or temperature is changed to "non-factory", the pre-brew cycle is bypassed and it does not dispense. If all settings are "factory", the unit works fine, except the coffee is terrible tasting. Reprogramming the cup buttons does not help.

The unit was descaled a few days ago. Anyway, coffee is dispensed if all settings are "factory". It only fails if I change brew strength or temperature.

  • rich_jaeger Sep 01, 2010

I descaled again today, but no improvement. If water was blocked by scale, it would also be blocked with factory setting.

  • rich_jaeger Sep 02, 2010

The unit has less than 100 brews, but I don't know the age - it appears to be relatively new, but in checking with Saeco , it is not in warranty. I bought it on eBay. It worked okay for about a week then went berserk . I set it up for high brew temp, strong brew on all three cup sizes, long pre-brew, i.e. not the default factory settings. When I push the cup button it grinds the beans, the pump starts, but the Pre-brew is skipped, it makes some noises, then the grounds are dumped (dry), and the cup selection display comes coffee-9 times out of 10... It does produce a cup of coffee once in a while.. Now if I go back into the menu and restore "factory settings" to "yes", it works okay- it grinds, pump starts, pre-brew, and dispenses the selected coffee every time. The problem here is that the coffee is not to my taste so I want the custom settings for temp and strength.
I have access to another Incanto, so I swapped the Brew Groups to see if that might be the problem - no luck.
I suspect there is an intermittent component or connector causing the problem- any ideas?
It ventilates okay, steams, and rinses. I've descaled it and run several tanks of water through it, but nothing changes.

First if you can adjust the temperature then your model is Incando Digital and not Classis as it appears on title.

Now the reason that you have not any coffee out not even the pre-brew is because the settings you have chosen have as a result that the water cannot pass through the coffee grounds and since the machine can detect that there is not any water flow it dumped the grounds dry and reset its position. The reason you have one in ten procedures is due to exceed pressure gather in water system flow from previous try that increase the pressure more than 9 bars and manage to pass through the coffee.

Therefore we don’t know if you have tried to adjust the grinder but this is the trick in your case. Since for strong brew it means more grams of coffee so the grinder must be set to more gross setting so the resistance of water to be balance. So adjust to a coarser grind (turn the knob clockwise). Also if you have the SBS system you should set the knob to the centre. And always remember the small rule; we need the coffee flow to last about 20 second’s aprox.

So the more coffee we use (strong brew) the grosser should be grinded. Please reamer that the grinder should be adjusted one to two steps max at a time so it will not be blocked.

So try it out and let us know the results, we remain

Adjust bunn coffee maker water level

To adjust the brew volume/batch size you will need to access the main circuit board behind the front panel. Isolate the machine before removing panels.

NOTE: Check that the brewer is connected to water supply, the tank is properly filled and a funnel and server or decanters are in place prior to setting or modifying batch sizes.
  1. Modifying batch sizes: To modify a batch volume, first check that the SET/LOCK switch is in the "SET" position on the circuit board. If the brewer has a batch selector switch, position it to the size to be changed. To increase a batch size: Press and hold the START or BREW switch until three clicks are heard. Release the switch (Failure to release the switch within 2 secs after the third click causes the volume setting to be aborted and previous volume setting will remain in memory) and press it again one or more times. Each time the switch is pressed, 2 secs are added to the brew time period. Allow the brew cycle to finish in order to verify that the desired volume has been achieved. To decrease a batch size: Press and release the START or BREW switch once for every 2 sec interval to be removed from the total brew time period; then immediately press and hold down the START or BREW switch until three clicks are heard. Release the switch. (Failure to release the switch within 2 secs after the third click causes the volume setting to be aborted and previous volume setting will remain in memory). Allow the brew cycle to finish in order to verify that the desired volume has been achieved.
  2. Setting batch sizes: To set a batch volume, first check that the SET/LOCK switch is in the "SET" position on the circuit board. Press and hold the START or BREW switch until three clicks are heard (this will take approx. 10 secs) and then release the switch. (Failure to release the switch within 2 secs after the third click causes the volume setting to be aborted and previous volume setting will remain in memory). View the level of the liquid being dispensed. When the desired level is reached, turn the ON/OFF switch to "OFF". The brewer remembers this volume and will continue to brew batches of this size until the volume setting procedure is repeated. Empty server(s), turn selector switch to positions that have yet to be set and repeat batch setting procedure until all batch sizes are set.
NOTE: When brewing coffee, batch volumes will decrease due to absorption by the coffee grounds.
  3. Setting programming disable feature: If it becomes necessary to prevent anyone from changing brew times once
programmed, you can set the SET/LOCK switch to the "LOCK" position. This will prevent any programming to be done.
NOTE: If the clicks cannot be heard, lightly grip the incoming water line to feel when the valve cycles on and off.

I have a Skytech 3301 for a propane stove with some thermostat problems.

Great question! It sounds to me like the Skytech's swing temp setting may be out of whack.
Here is a quick link to the product page with a link to the owner's manual at the bottom if you need: Skytech 3301 Fireplace Remote.
Below is an excerpt on how to check and modify the swing temp settings for the Skytech 3301. (I apologize if the copy/paste formats poorly).
The Thermo Mode on the transmitter operates the appliance whenever the ROOM TEMPERATURE varies a
certain number of degrees from the SET TEMPERATURE. This variation is called the "SWING" or
TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL. The normal operating cycle of an appliance may be 2-4 times per hour depending on how well the room or
home is insulated from the cold or drafts. A smaller "swing number" increases the number of cycles so the room temperature is more
constant. A larger "swing number" decreases the number of cycles, which saves energy, in most cases. The factory setting for the "swing
number" is 2. This represents a temperature variation of +/- 2
F (1
C) between SET temperature and ROOM temperature, which determines
when the fireplace will be activated. The "SWING" number values are:
1=+ 1
F (.5
C), 2= + 2
F (1
C) and 3 = + 3
F (1.6
1. To change the temperature "SWING" setting (1-3), press the TIMER/TIME and DOWN buttons
simultaneously to display the current "SWING" setting in the SET TEMP frame. The letter "S" will
display in the ROOM TEMP frame on the LCD screen.
2. Press the UP or DOWN button to change the temperature differential or "SWING" (1-3). See above
for 1-3 "SWING" temperature valves.
3. To store the "swing number press the SET button or allow 15 seconds to lapse, and the new "swing
number' will be automatically programmed.

The operation of the factory set "THERMO SWING" can be checked by adjusting the SET TEMP 2
F above or below the room temperature.
This will cause the system to turn ON or OFF. Normally the system will only respond to temperature changes every two minutes. Manually
changing the SET temperature will activate the system in less than 10 seconds. IF the "SWING" is changed, then a new room temperature
differential will respond. Factory setting of "SWING" temperature is 2

I have a keurig b 60 brewer and i don't feel the water is hot enough. i just got it last night 12/23/10 can u suggest anything?

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

ProgrammingBrewTemperature (187°-192oF)
The Brewer brews at a preset temperature of 192°. You can adjust this temperature down by 5 degrees if you prefer a cooler cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa. Simply follow the instructions below.
1. Press the Menu Button on the LCD Control Center five times to program the Brew Temperature feature.
2. The LCD Control Center will now display the programming options with a small arrow next to "SET BREW TEMP" (fig. 15). Also, the temperature 192° (initial setting) will be displayed at the bottom of the LCD Control Center to indicate the current temperature setting.
3. A minus sign will appear over the Small Cup Button and/or a plus sign over the Large Mug Button. Use these buttons to raise or lower the temperature one degree at a time.
4. Once you have reached your desired brew temperature, press the Menu Button once to exit the programming mode. "BREW TEMP SET" will be displayed in the LCD Control Center if you have changed it from 192°.
5. To change the brew temperature again, repeat steps 1 through 3 to change the temperature up or down, remembering that the temperature can only be between 187° and 192°.

I tried to help you. Please help me and Rate/Vote on my response, thanks and good luck

Water does not flow through the coffee group but only exits viasteam pipe. Decalcifying and cleaning or resetting factory settings do not solve the problem. what to do?. The problem occurs after I have...

When you are finished with steaming, try pushing the steam button again and then opening the steam valve to purge the steam. Do this until the water flows freely. You should hear the pump change tone. If you have a pre grind button, try that without putting any coffee in the pre ground chute, then push a medium coffee. Water should flow through the brew unit freely. If not, you are getting a blockage in the brew unit. If it does, your grind on the machine might be too fine. Change to a coarser grind and try again. It usually takes 3 cycles before the grind is in effect.

Saeco Easy dispenses first, then grinds

I think you have pre-brewing on your machine, if you have a Sirius then you have these settings in the menu under coffee settings.

I don´t think this is on Saeco Easy, only if you will make two cup of coffee, then the machine will pre-grind the beans for the second cup.
