I just got through replacing this and found the service manual at (it applies to several LG wasers, but this was a huge help to me to step by step get to the pump motor). Also, there are two identical motors (with impellers) on the WM2277HW, one pumps the dirty water out, the other recirculates the water back into the drum to help mix the "cycle water" with the appropriate liquid (after it is dispensed). Hope this helps

Washing Machine not draing

You seem to be almost right, the impeller must have come off due to heavy dirt build up, the readings are OK since the motors are working. What needs to be done is to remove the drain assembly and clean before you can reset or if not replace the unit if the impeller is too loose and will not stay fit.

How do I clean the Pump on a front loader whirlpool (see model in comments)

if you look at the base of the front of your washer there will be a little panel at the bottom that is a separate piece made of plastic not metal if you get a flat blade screw driver and just push it in between the gap (in between the metal and plastic piece) at both ends it should just pop off without much effort then you will see a black circle in the bottom right corner that is your drain pump solid waste trap if you unscrew it you will b able to see your drain pump impeller and remove anything from it (sorry if this info isnt 100% accurate i couldnt find the model number in your comments but thats how most frontloaders are set up)

I have a frontload whirlpool washer and the water will not drai n out. I have clean the filter but it wil still not drain

hello, Chances are there is something in the pump and usually it will break off the impeller. You might have to install a new pump. Try unhooking the pump hoses and put the unit in drain and see if the impeller is turning or damaged before buying a new pump. please dont forget to rate me..Thank You..

When it hits the final spin it makes a cruching noise and will not drain

Sounds like you have a bad drain pump. Usually the impeller will break off the pump shaft and spin freely inside the pump causing the noise. You will need to remove the pump and feel inside and see if the impeller is broken. Be sure to have a shop vac handy to drain the water from the unit before removing hoses. If its a frontload remember there is alot of standing water in between the tubs. Good Luck.

Machine makes a mild grinding sound and won't spin in the spin cycle. What could it be?

Welcome to Fixya.

Depending on whether it is a frontload or top load machine has a lot to do with my answer, but for the sake of guessing I`d say check your drain pump.

Both top or frontload machines rely on the unit draining to allow them to spin properly. The "mild grinding" sound may be something in the pump preventing it from draining or the pump impeller itself is grinding.

If you`re not sure how, please specify if it is a frontload or topload and the make and model number and I should be able to help you from there.

Good luck.

Hi, there may be an obstruction in the pump housing that is causing the motor to freeze or, the impeller may be stripped and , jamming the pump. this will cause the hum you are hearing. the best way to inspect is to , extract the drain pump by, removing
the bottom drain filter housing or sump. manually
move the pump impeller to self it is moving freely. if the impeller is stripped, it will not be able to produce the draining surge necessary to pull the water out.

If the impeller is fine and, there are no obstructions visible, this will confirm pump failure.. replace the pump in this case

Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

Plug off the mains. First drain out all your water by lowering the exit hose into a bucket or drain. You have to look for screws below the front kick-panel, the panel comes down & out. The pump is on the right side. Be prepared for dirty water. Inside the big flexible tube (coming from the tub bottom) is the filter, be prepared to find all sorts of junk here, clean out. Examine your pump also, clean out the impeller. Carefully refit all. Your machine would be fine. Don’t wait for the machine to jam to look into your filter.

Kenmore frontload works with no load but fails with clothes

Suspect the drum motor. Sounds like a burned winding in the motor which will open when hot and not work under any load.
