Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Have trouble with the cassette compartment on the Sony Handycam dcr-hc90. It is stuck in the open position. Everywhere that I have tried to see about getting it fixed is asking an outrageous price. Any ideas?

This is usually caused by a defective tape mechanism position sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I Have a Sony DCR-HC90 and I'm having trouble connecting my camera into my mac. I Have a usb cable but the camera won't connect to my computer

USB will only download still photos or movie shorts stored on a card. eg memory stick.
If no card is in the camera then no connection.
If you wish to capture movies stored on the tape, you will require a firewire cable to connect.
Use iMovie to capture the footage or another Mac application like Final Cut if availble on your Mac.

Manual eject option for trv320? No tape in it. Won't open so I can put one in.

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.

Reinsert cassette

Turn the unit off and hit the back of the camera twice near the battery compartment with the palm of your hand. Sounds crazy but it worked with my camcorder Sony DCR-TRV480. Problem started when I used 8MM Head Cleaner. I think the roller got stuck inside camcorder. The trouble code came up C:31:22. Hope this helps.

error 31 is some kind of a problem with the cassette compartment, it's either won't eject it right now, or it's stuck otherwise. try to eject, if doesn't work, try "reset" button, if still no luck, replace the cassette compartment

the flexwire of the mechanism have a open line...it is so difficult to fix that cause that wire is like a strand of hair..in sony service they replace the whole assembly and will cost a lots and again it will happen again the same problem cause the space of that wire in the mechanism is too small...in our shop we modified that wire and become more durable that the original...
