MY COMPUTER CANNOT SEE THE DRIVE. I THINK IT MIGHT BE DAMAGED. HOW CAN I RESTORE ALL THE INFORMATION I HAVE STORED ON MY SIMPLETECH 96500-41001-004 CEF

Try it on another computer. Even try using a different USB cable with it. Verify first that it is the drive that has failed.

click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

then you restore it to its default status


Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options


Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

restore defaults


In XP


Right click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

well not automatically most ext drives come with a software utility to make the restore function can be done with windows backup as well takes a bit of time but usually works well

Save information on a separate hd and wait for folowing operations to be successfull : format your Pininfarina in FAT 32 . Copy data back to Pininfarina . Connect Pininfarina to Mac and proceed further on .

How do you get the simpletech external hard drive to store information, and how do you know when it is stored?


Plugging in a USB device before installing the driver disk is the most common USB mistake people make.
An external hard drive, driver properly installed, looks just like a normal hard drive in 'My Computer'. Use it like a hard drive.
If you cannot see it in My Computer when it is plugged in (Go ahead, unplug it and reconnect while My Computer is open) then the driver is loaded wrong. A wrong driver needs to be removed with 'Device Manager', the USB drive DISCONNECTED, the driver reinstalled and the device plugged in at the end or when it is asked for by the installer, not windows (unless it does not have an install disk)
Poof, you can see the disk as a hard drive in My Computer.
See 'Device Manager' on the Internet for help with this.

I backed up my entire computer on my SimpleTech Pinin Farina external hard drive and now I can't figure out how to find a file on it that I need. I see all the backup files, but I can't figure out how to...


Backup software compresses the files and encodes them to an image file made up of a series of sequenced files. The same software you used to do the backup should have the restore options needed to locate desired files. SimpleTech website shows Fabrik to be the name of the backup software.
If you utilized, there's also an online backup site used to store files. Following link is the users guide:

Help me please I beg you....All my important files are stored in a SimpleTech 120GB storage device and I cant retrieve it. It wont appear in the My computer but it is recognized by the device manager......


uninstall all usb drivers from device manager.
then clik on scan for hardware changes then it automatically install all usb drivers.
then check in my computer.Alkso try in other computer if you have.
Check usb cable is proper working.
Check in all usb ports.

My simpletech 320gb is looking for a driver


Hi guys,

This type of problem is fairly common.

There are two common reasons why this happens:

1. The drive may not have been properly ejected causing corruption of the files. This can be fixed by running the command prompt and typing in CHKDSK ?: /F where ?=damaged drives letter.

2. Hardware failure, either the circuit board on the drive or the one in the simpletech case may be damaged. Generally with a driver issue it is the latter and can be solved easily by stopping in at your local computer store and having them transfer the actual drive into a new drive enclosure.

If neither of these solutions work, then you will most likely need the help of a data recovery pro in your region. If you are in North America I suggest Armor-IT Data Recovery, India www.diskdoctorsindia.com or if you are elsewhere comment back with your region and I will make another recommendation.

Cant find drive in my computer


its a lost partition .will have to restore partitions by partition restore softwares.... if mistake made , you can loose data for ever. contact expert and send your drive to recovery..Dont format drive please.... its a very easy job for recovery expert...

i think the dell technician was re-format your computer. once the computer is reformat.. all the file in your computer was gone and you will never see it again, unless they copy your files. thanks!
