Question about Samsung LT-P1545 15 in. EDTV-Ready LCD Television

1 Answer

In two weeks Cablevision in New York (and probably U.S.) going digital. We do not want cablebox since this TV hangs in our bathroom. Need Qam tuner. Is there one for this TV? How and where do we get it? If not do you have another 15 inch model that accepts one or that accepts a cable card?

Sorry. Maybe my point was not clear. I know TV will accept the signal but only with a digital box added or a Qam tuner. How do I find such a tuner for the TV? Most of the available ones seem to be for computer monitors and plug into USM so you can watch TV through your computer. I want one that plugs into the antenna in jack of the television. I do not want to add a digital cable box to my bathroom. Thanks.

How can i get a QAM code?

QAM codes are to do with the way digital TV is encoded. There's nothing practical you can do with a QAM code. It's like understanding how to calculate the mass of Jupiter. Great that you can do it. But it's of no practical day-to-day benefit.

Here's some reading on Quadratic Amplitude Modulation, for what it's worth.

You don't need the QAM code. QAMs are to do with how digital TV is encoded. There's no information in a QAM that you can use as a consumer.

I have a 2 tuner tv. When Cablevision installed my digital cable box, I lost the 2 tuner capability. Is there a special way it needs to be hooked up to get back the 2 tuner capability?

Your cable system is probably QAM (digital cable). The tuners built into the TV are analog and digital OTA tuners (ATSC and NTSC). If you connect the Cablevision box to the component video input (and connect the audio out of the box to the appropriate audio in) on the TV and an appropriate antenna to the coax (antenna) input, you will be able to swap use the tuners in the TV. (See tvfool.com for antenna types and direction or antennaweb.org for directions of the most likely stations to be received at your location. antennaweb assumes an external antenna and is conservative in the list it provides.)

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(please note, you probably need to get the component video cables. These have 3 RCA plugs on each end (red, green and blue). To carry the audio you need a cable with 2 RCA plugs on each end (red and white). Match the colors as you connect them.)

Recording on a STB and being able to watch a DIFF channel.

It is possible to record a channel and watch a second channel. If your cable vision has digital-only signals, you will need a Digital tuner or a second cable box.
If your cable has conventional channels still, you can buy a splitter and run the cablevision to the TV and the CableBox at the same time.
Switch to the TV tuner, you see cable.
Switch to the recorder (connected to the CableBox) and you see what you can record.

Cablebox? If so, you can try changing the digital output type for the HDMI connection. Most common and reliable format is L-PCM or PCM. If you provide your cablebox model and cable service, you can be better assisted.

I have a toshiba 42 inch tv model number 42RV535U we have it connected to an HD cable box and the sound will periodiclly cut out for a second and come back on it will work fine for a few seconds and do it...

Access the cablebox setup menu if possible. If it is a Motorola, you need to have the TV on and turn the cablebox off. Then press menu on the cablebox or cablebox remote. Under HDMI options, change audio output to L-PCM or PCM. This may not fix the issue, but it is a good start. Secondly, contact Toshiba for the latest firmware update for your product. Some models have had new firmware releases as late as this week for similar issues. If you still do not find resolution with these two recommendations, you should switch to component (Y/Pb/Pr) cables for your connection.

Get dish network to work with hp SR5505F COMPAQ PRESARIO COMPUTER

You can not change channels on Satellite with your TV tuner card. The satellite box decodes the sat signal (it is sent encrypted) you can run S-Video/RCA/HDMI depending on the video card input, but you will be required to change the channel on the Dish box. The TV card can only change channels on broadcast (over the air) channels, you can attach an antenna and it will use the NTSC tuner to change analog channels (if they are still available) and the ATSC tuner to change digital/HD broadcast channels. This card (from your description can ONLY deal with broadcast TV, You will need a TV card with a QAM tuner for unscrambled digital cable. There is no solution for directly interfacing with Satellite on a PC or Mac (DirectTV or Dish) the signal from the satellite is encrypted and requires (at least for DirectTV, a fairly complicated decryption setup to function, this is handled by the tuner box/card combination. Sorry your setup will not support changing the channel on the PC, you may be able to find some kind of software that can utilize an IR transmitter to change the channels on your satellite box, similar to the way a Tivo or other DVR can talk to cable boxes, but that is the best you will be able to do as far as channel changing.

Cant get all componenets to work together

Okay so you need to run a fiber optic cable to back of bose system for sound on the cablebox if it's a hd cablebox. If you don't have a fiberoptic connection on cable box then you can use a digital coax audio cable and plug it from cablebox if it has it to back of bose system where the plugs are colored all black under the red and white connections. This cable is basically a yellow video rca type cable. That cable doubles as a video cable and a digital audio cable. But anyways once you plug your cablebox up digitally you need to make sure under the settings or setup menu of cablebox that you go under audio and make sure your cablebox is set to dolby digital instead of hdmi. Especially if it's a scientific atlanta time warner cable box. The bose remote should operate eveything still unless I read your question wrong and your saying it doesn't.

Ready for nat'l digital transition?

If it is an older model (i couldn't find anything on it either), it most likely does NOT have a QAM tuner. Be aware that only the "un-encrypted" cable channels will be free otherwise you will have to buy or rent the digital box from the company to get the rest of the regular digital channels. The un-encrypted channels are like 71.2, 83.7 so you should know if you are getting those or not.
