Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

2 Answers

On boot-up it comes up with a screen that says it's shutting down to protect the computer. When I run Scandisk it finds a huge number of errors, says its fixed them, then finishes. When I try and reload Win XP it still gives me the original error message. Is it a bad hard drive or something more serious on the mainboard?

I tried your suggestions, right through formatting and re-installing XP. It still came back with the crash message, ending with- Stop: 0XFA88524,0XC0000034, 0X0000000, )X00000000)

Is there any software besides scandisk that can isolate the bad parts of the hard drive? I'd be happy with 60GB instead of the 160, as a new HD is over $100!

    Thanks,

    Jack

When it refers to memory ..it is not for sure that it refers to the hard disk ..specially if you formatted it (normally not quick ) from scratch ..and reinstalled the operation system ..so ..if this error is a blue screen ..try to check the cpu ventilation ...and also ..go to bios ..and default all settings ..(so that you know for sure you do not have any overclocking or heat protection ) ..To do that ,,press f2 on start and in the bios settings look for optimal factory settings .and activate them ..Save with F10 and restart ..
Another thing to check is the Ram memory ..If you have more than one inserted...remove and leave it work with one at the time ..and see if it is booting right ..cause most blue screen problems are from .the ram memory issues ..
In the final ..try to format it again and see what comes out ...or ..borrow a hard disk ..(even already installed cause in general will boot even if it do not have the devices installed or recognized..) ..and try to boot it up ..and so you'll know that it is a hdd problem ..
after that ..with a recovery for Bads program ..and installed in a slave position on a computer ..try to isolate them ..or fix ..but ..if it is to have bads on it ..and not virtual but physical ones...tha on start should always show them ..and force you to press F1 to accept the boot with the hdd in this condition ...If it didnt ask for it ..it measn that there is something else..and the only issue remained is the ram memory ..

Base from the description of your problem the main possible reason for this is a hard drive that has several bad sectors already and the operating can already be corrupted that;s why windows XP wont load anymore.

What we can do here first is to try loading on Safe mode or Last known good configuration , to do power off the computer and then power it back on and once you press the power button continuously press F8 key and see if that will load advance boot menu if yes select first boot with Last known good configuration and check if that will load fine if not restart again the computer and press F8 again and select Safe mode the first one.

But if still same problem the hard drive is already bad but you ca try to format it and install a fresh copy of XP.

Base from the crash message that you receive this is a clear sign of hard drive problem and needs a replacement already. Because with motherboard and pother parts there are particular beep code and computer wont even boot but with the symptoms that you have its a hard drive problem.

I have a asus eee900 netbook ,it will not boot up

Hello
Its going into scandisk for some reason. It may not hurt to let it run the scandisk, what this does is it checks your hard drive for errors or bad sectors and repairs them.

If you do not want to do this just hit any key when prompted.

If you choose to do scandisk it may take an hour or so.

The computer starts then shuts down.

Try booting up the computer pressing whatever key the Dell needs to boot into BIOS (F10, Delete key, F1...pay attention to the screen) and leave the computer on for about 15min. See if it cuts off then. If it does its more than likely your power supply. If it doesn't then its not hardware related.

Laptop shuts down

My Wife's computer started doing this for about a week or two, then all it did was keep trying to boot, nothing on screen, all lights come on. Seems there is an issue with certain models of compaqs and Hp laptops. If yougo to their website and chat with a rep, you may find you have one of these models they are giving a one time free fix, even if out of warranty.
They have ours right now.

I have a toshiba laptop which needs formatting. Whenever I start the procedure the laptop shuts down 10% into formatting. I have tried this several times. The laptop runs normally if I am in windows. ...

Start with a boot disk. run a scandisk to find any errors, then try using fdisk to reconfigure your partitions, enabling you to format. this has worked for me in the past with desktop pcs.
