Question about Philips 42PFL5603D 42 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

I have a PHillips HDTV (32PFL6704D). When we watch shows, the picture is too big for the screen. For example we can't see football specs on top info line or all of program information on bottom, etc. I've gone to options and picture format and selected automatic, and when that didn't work, I tried unscaled, but we're still having the problem. I've also adjusted vertical and horizontal shift and can sometimes bring in top info, but then totally lose bottom band of ongoing scores for other games, & sometimes even at max shift, we're still missing stuff. I've gone a round-about way to be able to see entire scrren by going to TV mode (instead of HD mode). Once there, I have to adjust volume way up, but can then chose a picture format option (usually one of the movie expand options) and see the entire screen. However, once we turn off the TV and later go to turn it back on, we've got very loud volume and we get an error message on the screen telling us we need to go back to the HD mode. Do you have any idea what's happening and how to fix it?

Thank-you SO MUCH for your answer! I didn't even know my Cox Cable remote had an HD zoom option, but it did, and somehow must have gotten pushed because as soon as I got that pushed back to normal, everything on screen fits and can be seen. Thank-you SO much for the assistance, was really going nuts trying to work around problem and figure out how to fix it! Our football season is going to be much more watchable/enjoyable thanks to you!

Try going back to the hd mode and adjusting the picture size with the other remote control that came from the cable or satellite company. There should be an hd zoom (#) button, format button, or aspect button on the cable company's/satellite company's remote. If there is not an obvious button to do so there is a menu selection (picture format usually). Also if the set top box's resolution is wrong for the television you have you will also experience this problem.

Watching football and can't see the yards, downs, etc on top/bottom of screen

Maybe you should check your screen settings, (widescreen, full, cinema, etc.) if the picture is too big for your screen, you won't be able to see the top or bottom of the picture.
