Question about Singer 6038 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

When I use the presser foot nothing happens. The machine is plugged in, turned on and everything is set up correctly. I was told my a not so reliable source that the motor may be shot. But, the machine is only a couple years old with light-moderate use. Any suggestions?

Even though it's only used moderately the motor can go out,
does the light come on?
try plugging the sewing machine into a different outlet
check to make sure the power cord is pushed all the way in
it also may be the power cord itself that has gone out
it could also be the on & off switch

I have a Bernina 1030. When I put a presser foot #57 on the needle hits the presser foot. The presser foot covers the wide hole in the back.

Hm, I'm at a loss here unless the presser foot you have is not the correct one for your machine. I believe some presser feet for older Berninas may not work on the 1030-1230 machines. If you have the original #37 1/4" foot for your machine, you might compare the differences between the two feet and you might see where the problem lies.

FWIW, I have both the #37 and #57. The #57 (or actually any of the 1/4" presser feet that are touted as "accurate 1/4") really does not solve the "scant 1/4" seam" for quilting because it still makes a 1/4" that is too wide. The best method I've found is to set a ruler under the presser foot. Set it so the needle tip rests lightly on the 1/4" mark and then mark the outside edge of the ruler with painter's tape on the needle plate. Then use the edge of the painter's tape as your 1/4" edge. If you find your 1/4" is still not "scant" enough, move the painter's tape a tinge until you get it where you want it.

I cannot get my singer 4423 to stich. It is new, what am I doing wrong?

Not sure what you mean but assume the top and bobbin threads are not interlocking to form a stitch. Possibly, the needle is installed facing the incorrect direction. Also, could be threaded incorrectly. Review the manual and make sure the thread path is correct for the top thread (ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top!). Also check that the bobbin is turning the correct direction in the bobbin case and that the bobbin case is threaded completely and correctly.

Lower the presser foot. Then hold the top thread tail in your left hand and manually turn the handwheel one revolution toward you. If everything is okay, the top thread will pull up a loop from the bobbin thread. Raise the presser foot and you can sweep a pencil, stiletto, or something similar under the presser foot to pull the rest of the bobbin thread up to the top.

Brother cs6000i thread tension issue

Logically, the top thread should not be affected by a walking foot as the thread operates independently of the presser foot.

Suggest removing the top thread totally from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Check that your walking foot is installed correctly--the fork-shaped piece needs to encircle the needle clamp screw.

If you continue to experience problems with the walking foot but none of the other feet, recommend contacting a Brother technician.

Do not try to fix it as you will void the warranty. You should contact whoever you purchased it from to find out where you need to bring the machine to be serviced.

Presser foot lever

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try a reset. This could be accomplish by unplugging the SE-270D from the mains. After an extended period, plug back in and power on normally. In some variations, there would be a reset button/key/switch.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Make sure you're using the correct foot for the stitch. Is this during sewing or embroidery? Take off the bobbin plate using the screwdriver and remove the bobbin. Make sure everything is clean under and around the shuttle. If you've ever broken a needle the tip might have fallen down into the mechanism and occasionally be jamming it.
