You can do a system restore using start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.
If the actual files have been deleted, though, you will need to reinstall the program.

What can I do to rescue data deleted by pressing "Shift+ Delete" on Windows 7?

Using Shift+Delete to remove files/folders bypasses the recycle bin which is your normal means of recovering accidentally deleted files. You can go to download.com and search for file recovery programs. Some are available that will search your hard drive and can maybe recover what you lost. It is important to do so as quickly as possible because once files are permanently deleted on the hard drive, the sectors that they occupied are no longer protected and can be overwritten by any program or file.

Restoration problem

How often are restore points created?
Restore points are created automatically every day, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually.

How much hard disk space does System Restore require?
To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk that has System Protection turned on. System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore will delete older restore points to make room for new ones.

How long are restore points saved?
Restore points are saved until the hard disk space System Restore reserves is filled up. As new restore points are created, old ones are deleted. If you turn off System Protection (the feature that creates restore points) on a disk, all restore points are deleted from that disk. When you turn System Protection back on, new restore points are created.

The restore point is a built in utility by microsoft, you can't have the option to configure the settings!!!

Not enough space on friends laptop

First you need to disable system restore on the drive to reclaim the missing space. To do this, you can do the following:
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > System
2. In System > Click on System Protection at the left side
3. In the System Protection Window > go to the System Protection Tab > then uncheck C: then hit Apply then OK

After disabling system restore, run disk clean up:
1. Go to Start > Computer > Right-click on C: > Disk Cleanup - make sure to check all of the files to be deleted to clear as much space as possible
2. After initially running Disk Cleanup you will now be able to see the More Options tab in the Disk Cleanup window > go to this tab then cleanup the System Restore and Shadow Copies to remove them completely
3. Enable the System Restore from the System Protection tab in System.
4. Resize the maximum amount of Shadow Copies that can be saved on the system, this will lock the System Restore feature from saving more than allocated amount. Run Command Prompt as administrator (go to Start > Programs > Accesories > then right-click on Command Prompt then Run as Administrator)
Set the maximum to whatever amount you feel is necessary. Setting it to 1GB should be more than enough for System Restore to create at least two restore points. Type the command: vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=c: /for=c: /maxsize=1gb

5. Once this is done you should have reclaimed at least 30 to 40% of the missing space. Once the System Restore has been reenabled it will automatically create the restore points so there will be no need to manually create one.

My pc has a problem

You didn't mention what os you are using xp or vista. What software are you talking about that it came with? also Norton Anti virus is known to cause problems with windows restore. So taking a wild guess check out these steps

Many users have found that Norton 2006 and later, has been responsible for this error message. It seems there is a security feature in place that prevents outside programs from making system changes that would change Norton's files. To work around this issue, follow these instructions:

<>Temporarily shut down Norton:
  1. Start Norton
  2. Select Options>> Norton Anti-Virus
  3. Select Miscellaneous from the right pane
  4. Scroll down the right pane and locate "How to protect my product"
  5. Uncheck the box titled: Turn protection on for my Symantec product
  6. Click OK
<>Run System Restore:
  1. Go to Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System Tools>> System Restore.
  2. Select the option: Restore my computer to an earlier time.
  3. Select a restore point to restore back to.
  4. Click OK
The restore operation will now start. Restart Windows when completed.

<>Turn Norton back on:
  1. Start Norton
  2. Select Options>> Norton Anti-Virus
  3. Select Miscellaneous from the right pane
  4. Scroll down the right pane and locate "How to protect my product"
  5. Check the box titled: Turn protection on for my Symantec product
  6. Click OK
If you do not have Norton installed on your system and you receive the subject message, your Restore Points may have become corrupt. You will need to delete all previous restore points and create a new one. Here's how:
Note: Using this method will remove any possibilities of restoring your system to a previous time. You will need to find a solution to your original problem manually.
  1. Go to Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System Tools>> System Restore
  2. Select System Restore Settings from the left
  3. Place a checkmark in the checkbox titled: "Turn Off System Restore". By turning off system restore, you are deleting ALL restore points.
  4. Go back to System Restore and select the option "Create a Restore Point".
System Restore should function normally at this point.
