My son psp beep when you put a game in and the umd does not come up can you help please

f you are experiencing issues when using a Universal Media Disc (UMDā„¢) on the PSP system, try these troubleshooting options:

  • Issues with PlayStationĀ®Store content Click here for help with content purchased from the PlayStation Store.
  • Restore Default Settings Restore Default settings will default the PSP system to its original settings. A setting change may be the reason the PSP system is having difficulties. Click here to learn how to restore default settings on the PSPgo / PSP system.
  • Confirm UMD is properly inserted

Make sure the UMD is properly inserted with the label facing the back of the PSP system. Try removing the UMD and reinserting it.
Please note, it is normal for the PSP system to make noises while it is reading from a UMD.

For PSP-1001, slide the latch to open the UMD door. For the PSP-2001 and PSP-3001, simply lift the door open.

  • Try playing the UMD on a different PSP system If possible, try playing the UMD on a different PSP system. If the disc still does not function properly, it might need to be replaced. If the disc does function properly, the PSP system may need service, see PSP Service for details.
  • Try playing a different UMD on the PSP system If possible, try playing a different UMD on the PSP system. If another UMD plays, the original UMD may be the problem. If none of the UMD's play, the problem may be isolated to the PSP system.
  • Check for moisture Do not let the PSP system or any PSPĀ® accessories come in contact with liquid. Also check for moisture condensation in the PSP system. If moisture condensation occurs, remove the disc from the PSP and do not use the PSP until the condensation has evaporated, which can take an hour or two. In general, if any part of the PSP gets wet, discontinue use until it is completely dry.
  • Check the regional code Check the regional code on the UMDā„¢ Video. The only regional codes that the North American PSPĀ® is tested to work properly with are "ALL" and "1.

Hi. Since you're in UMD Autoload mode, you need to configure that in the PSP Settings. To do this, turn off your PSP and remove your UMD. Now, turn it back on and it won't autoload your UMD since it wasn't there anymore.
Now, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "System Settings" and press X. Scroll down again the selection until you see "UMD Auto-Start" and press X. At the right side will appear the options "ON" and "OFF". Select "OFF" and press O button several times to go back to main screen.
Insert your UMD. Now, try playing games from Memory Stick. You may have to turn off your PSP and turn it on again to finally play homebrew...
I hope this helps...

Don't worry, it's about your UMD, you can even try the same UMD to your friend's PSP and Im pretty it will run. It's your firmware that needs to be changed. However, you may need to downgrade first before upgrading to a new firmware again to solve your problem. Please get back here when you have the details...

Hi .... i got a PSP 3000 . and the UMD stoped working and it dosn't read that i have a UMD inside . whats the problem and what do i do? please help.

1) That UMD isn't working..
..or
2) Your UMD drive isn't working.

Either one, or both.

- If you try other UMDs... if they work, that means this UMD we're talking about here isn't working.
- If you try other UMDs... if they don't work, that means your UD drive is faulty.

If your PSP is still under warranty... then bring it back to SONY.
.. or exchange UMDs from where-ever you bought it from.
.. depends which scenario!

Psp making funny buzz noise and not reading umd disks.

Try a different UMD, it might be scratched. If not, take a soft cloth, and clean the lens. Look on google to see where the lens are located.

Psp having problem reading umd.

Hi Goodhelper,

Check the UMD for any kind of foriegn obstruction. You can use a pencil with an eraser to psin the UMD manually. Do this to check to be sure the UMD is not scrubbing or sticking inside its case. Try a different UMD to see if its the UMD or the UMD drive inside your PSP.

If you find it is the PSP. Services listed with Fixya can repair your PSP. Click on "REpair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. In the next screen, Click on "Video Game Consoles". Pick a good PSP repair service.

Where is the UMD?

UMD is Universal Media Disc, its a small disc are used for PSP.  press the "eject" button on the top to open the disc tray. Usually the problem its not from the UMD, but from the console.

The first check the version you are running on psp, >> Go to the PSP Menu and move across to the "Settings Menu". Scroll down, select to "System Settings" >> "System Information" and you should see version of your PSP. If the UMD has a high version than ur console, u need to update ur psp.

plz visit my blog, for psp update guide.

Hi Jleew,

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.

I can do this for you if you're in the USA for $55 including a New UMD drive, REturn Shipping, and 90 day warranty. Contact [email protected]
