Question about KitchenAid KERC500 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a Kitchenaid model YKERS507EW1 and the probe light comes on as well as sometimes F4 and then oven shuts down. I have already replaced temperature sensor and that is not fixing the problem. I now want to disconnect the meat probe and wondered if I can just unhook from back of stove and leave unhooked. Is this safe to operate this way or should I be doing something else. Thanks so much.

This was very helpful. I actually just tightened up the meat probe outlet and it is working so far. If this does not work I will get an ohm meter, test it out, then replace, only if necessary. Thanks much.

Its not safe to use the unit with unplugged meat.It will not work properly and also other parts can get short. But for troubleshooting,i will say try this procedure:--- F4 Meat probe shorted
1. Disconnect meat probe and measure probe resistance (78k? at 60° F [15.6° C],
37k? at 90° F [32.2° C]).
2. If resistance is not valid replace probe.
3. Insert probe and check for a firm connection between probe and jack (in oven cavity).
4. Check connection between jack and harness (in rear of oven).
It sounds like the probe jack may be bad or the wiring between the jack and the control board above.
You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com

The problem you describe is with the temperature probe which is short circuit and which need to be replaced.

We have here below the link with the parts diagram of your model where you find the temperature probe and also you can order the part from the same link.

Hi,

Here is what Kitchen Aid says about F4:

F4 Meat probe shorted
1. Disconnect meat probe and measure probe resistance (78kω at 60° F [15.6° C],
37kω at 90° F [32.2° C]).
2. If resistance is not valid replace probe.
3. Insert probe and check for a firm connection between probe and jack (in oven cavity).
4. Check connection between jack and harness (in rear of oven).

It sounds like the probe jack may be bad or the wiring between the jack and the control board above.
