My printer gets stuck on initializing...or calibrating. I have unplugged, rebooted and have gotten it to say "ready" but still will not print.

After you power on the printer, does it ALWAYS do calibration, and if so, does the calibration cycle complete or just goes on and on?
From your description, it sounds like the printer will come to the READY ... eventually after calibration. That's a good sign. The fact that it does not print could be other factors.
1. first, get a high speed parallel cable and hook the printer directly up to your computer. Be sure your commnications are good.
1a. if you only have ethernet connection to the printer, then you'll need to print out the information page so that you can find the IP address of the printer. If the printer's IP address shows all zeros, then the IP address for the printer's jet direct card has not been defined. Instead of going on about how to install a new port, drivers, etc. please tell me where you're at.

Printer won't print labels

Try resetting the printer:
Note: it will erase all network settings.

Turn the printer off, press and hold the GO button, turn the printer back on, continue holding the GO button for at least 10 seconds, but for fewer than 20 seconds. After the Go, Attention, and Ready LEDs turn on, release the GO button. During this process, the Attention LED will turn on, the LEDs will begin to cycle, and the unit will perform a cold reset until the printer returns to the Ready state.

NOTE: If either the Go or Ready light turn off or no LEDs turn off before the GO button is released, repeat the process.

For PCL XL error: try to reinstall the printer drivers.

If a surge protector is being used, remove it. Plug the all-in-one directly into the wall socket. 3. Check the FFC connection between the formatter and the scanner. NOTE Do not bend or fold the FFCs during the removal or reinstallation process. 4. Try connecting the product to a different power source or surge protector. 5.
