A popular pastime for NC6000 owners is to try and patch (hack) the BIOS to allow for Wifi cards outside the boundary of the existing whitelist. I fear this is what's happened in your case.

I had one with the same problem, so I desoldered the PLCC EPROM, reprogrammed it and fixed it back on using a socket solution (so if it happened again I could just remove the chip with a PLCC extractor). It's not for the faint of heart and if you've never done something like this, I recommend not making this your first project!

Have you tried attaching an external monitor and using the <FN> key with the F? key (mine is F5) to toggle between internal and external video?

If still nothing download latest Bios update and try to flash to that.(if you don't have a multi-bay floppy drive you may have to invest in a USB floppy.

or Try ebay for parts

HOW DO i MAKE NC6000 BOOT TO USB DRIVE

Turn the computer off in the normal way.

Turn the computer on, tapping the F2 key [it might not be F2, could be esc, F1 F8 or F10, depends on the make and specific model of your PC, for my HP desktops it's F2] a few times each second. This should enable you to enter the BIOS set-up (which key to press) (see https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0LEV2bavtZTVmcAjVFLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTE0bTVyc3Q3BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1ZJUFVLMDdfMQ--?qid=20071012195523AAXHNK3)
Look at he screen carefully while you do this, because the computer often tells you how to enter the BIOS setup during the start-up process, but the information isn't the for very long: you may have noticed this while you starting the computer all those times in the past.

Once in the BIOS set-up navigate to BOOT options or something like that. You may have to work your way every option (there aren't that many) to find it. Once there it will show a list of places to boot from - these are typically the hard drive, the optical disk drive, and the USB port, you may even have eSATA option. These will be in order. Change the order to make the laptop try to boot from a USB device first. Now exit the BIOS set-up saving the change to the boot device order. If there isn't a USB device when you next boot the laptop will just try the second device on the list. If you start up the computer with a bootable USB device in a USB port, it will boot from that device. (eg a flash memory drive)

There are other ways, but this is fundamental way if your BIOS supports boot from USB (my desk tops do not so I had to find another way)

Sounds like your display panel is bad or it's another symptom of a mother board flex problem at the Maxim chip

HP NC6000 boot failure.Fan starts but quits after 10 secs or so.

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

If this did not work, try also disassembling the laptop & make sure that all main components are seated properly. Also make sure that all ribbon cables interconnecting the various components of the laptop are tightly connected.

When i switch on the laptop i hear cd/dvd drive noise and the lights on the front light up (under front side near keyboard), but it doesnt show any bios/nothing happens on screen, the fan sounds and front...

Here is the home support page at HP for your notebook, and here is the startup troubleshooter with detailed steps to work through that will help you to diagnose the problem. (See also here, possibly here.)
Since the bios is not completely, you may have a failed hardware device or conflict, and could try removing the optical drives and booting that way. You can download a service manual for your notebook from the hp home site above, or contact HP directly for guided assistance.
See also this general startup troubleshooting article that may help you to zero in on the source of this problem....and here's a somewhat dated but worthy boot troubleshooter, with good reference info.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I am trying to reinstall window xp on my conputer but i am getting non system disk error or bios error

seems like the laptop is not starting from the cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter bios thats one way to solve the problem but look for Boot menu, it will very likely be button F12 or similiar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesnt, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install xp.

here how to work the bios.

My pc doesn't startup up

I had this problem too but I then downloaded the most recent BIOS driver from the HP web site and that seems to be working. At least it now starts and boots correctly but I still have the problem that it tends to hangs up after a short while.

Cannot reinstall Windows on my Hp Compaq nc6000

I know I just had the same problem today...when getting into the bios...try using a "multi-bay" boot and have the cd booted first then the hd...That's the only way mine worked to "trick" the system to boot from the cd...it took a few times of stalling after that but with frustration and regathering with patience, it finally worked...you might have problems with the devices not being recognized after it does load unless you have an easy driver set to install from cd...otherwise you might have to manually install them to make them operate correctly. *hint: using the device manager to see any '?s' and reinstall drivers helped me*

Lenovo bios password

Hi,

I found a homepage with a load of Backdoor passwords, - one of them will bypass you forgotten BIOS password. If you dont know your type, you´ll have to try them all out, or untill you hit the right one:

Boot problems blank screen, no beeps

no in he power supply , but on the motherboards power regulation area,
you have to be real good at soldering 4 layer board and have the right tools . its not an easy job even if your skilled,
one bit of heat too much and you fry the board.
there are techniques to this that you can only learn by doing.
the caps are apparent if you are a tech.
the most you should attempt is to just purchase a replacement board.
I see these board available on ebay for 40.00 including shipping.
