Question about Grundfos Comfort System Recirculator 595916

1 Answer

My Grundfos Comfort System is not working. I has been installed correctly....the pump is running, I checked and replaced the valve....still no immediate hot water. The installation instructions indicated that an additional valve will be necessary if I have a "Branched System."How do I determine if I have a branched system?

Turn on the hot water at the farthest faucet from the water heater. Once hot water is at that sink immediately go check other taps in the home. If you have to wait more then 10 seconds for hot water at other taps then you have a branched system.

A friend has a grundfos comfort hot wter recirc system and is getting a chatter or water hammer noise at night after the toilet is flushed.he tells me it sounds like it's coming from under the counter...

1) Unplug grundfos and see if same problem occurs.

2) Noise can be cause by water not flowing freely.
Disassemble parts and clean with CLR (calcium lime rust).
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

3) Any time there is a humming sound, it can be the motor.
I would also use CLR and clean out Grundfos pump.

4) Any pump or motor that slows down, is overheating, and burn out.

After installing the thermo bypass valve on the furthest sink faucet from the water heater, the sink faucet has no pressure, and there is hot water slowly comling out of the cold water valve.

It sounds like the installation loosened sediment inside pipe.
Remove sink aerator and see if you can flush open the faucet.

Also check if other faucets are receiving hot water from hot-and-cold taps that says if grundfos is pumping hot water from the water heater correctly.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

When recirculation pump is running, both hot and cold water lines have hot water.
If other faucets have hot water in both lines, then that tells you the blockage is localized in furthest faucet supply lines.
You may have to dissemble those supply lines and flush the sediment out.

Grundfos recirculating system. Never has produced semi instant hot water at sink it is installed on. Could the original comfort valve be defective

http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

The circulation system should draw hot water directly from the water heater as shown on illustrations on link above.

The Grundfos pump works on a thermostat, and some work on a timer.
Can you hear the pump working?
There should be a humming sound.
Check the timer -or- thermostat setting.

It is possible the lines are clogged with sediment if you have hard water.

If I was going to fix the problem:
1) check thermostat or timer
2) listen for pump sound
3) check electricity going to unit
4) take apart the pipes and inspect for clogging
If there is a clog, I would flush the line or soak the part in CLR (calcium lime rust remover)

The circulation pumps are sealed and there is no way to take apart the motor, timer, or thermostat for repairs.

Is there a problem with the Grundfos Comfort Series Undersink Valve that causes it to lock in the open position?. One of my valves has done this causing the cold water faucett to run very hot. ...

This is a common problem with this valve. Try placing the valve in near boiling water then set to cool before trying again. It worked for me until the next time it failed and I got a different system.

Hammering while grundfos comfort system is pumping

Pipes should have been installed with cushioning to prevent this from happening. Could be a faulty bypass valve.
