Loss of connection

We are having continual loss of connectivity and when we do have a connection we are sometimes able to get our online service and sometimes the page will not come up.

    have four computers on the router tree have cables one wireless card , keep getting kicked off internet weather using ie fire fox ect.getting really annoying. do i need to just get a new router or will it just keep doing this

Buy a new router, belkin doesn't know how to design one that doesn't repeatedly drop a connection

Diagnostic light keeps blinking


Check the LED lights that are blinking on the front of the DSL modem. Check the "Internet/Online" LED and make sure it is blinking green or a solid green. If this LED is not blinking, then the modem is not getting a phone signal, or the service is out. Remove the line and check it to make sure that you're getting a signal.
Check to see if filters are connected to the phone lines that are all around the house. These filters separate the phone line from the DSL line so that the lines do not crosswire and disturb the Internet connection or the phone connection. The DSL is usually shipped with a couple of phone filters. These phone filters can be purchased at many electronics stores or provided free from your Internet Service Provider.Check to see if the modem is connected to a wireless router. If the modem is connected to the router, try disconnecting the router and connect the modem straight to a computer. If the modem is also a multi-port wireless router, then connect the computer to a different port on that same router.Reset the router if the previous steps do not resolve the problem. Follow the initial set up instructions given to you when you first installed the router. Perform any firmware updates that might be needed once online, and use the discs that came with the modem.

Sometimes problems occur with the internet connections, which can be resolved by the users. If any such thing happens in future you can try the following steps to get back the internet connectivity (if the issue is at your end).
1. Restart the DSL Modem. This would connect to the internet afresh, which generally resolves the connectivity problems from your modem to ISP.
2. If you have a Router/ Switch as well, you may reboot them, if step 1 doesn't work.

I just baught the Netgear WNDR3700 router today and only after 10 minutes after I had it installed it, it started losing connection. Sometimes I can play games online for 30 minutess and sometimes only a...


If it is this new I would suggest calling Netgear and have their support help you out. Due to the way their warranty works that would be best. I have a netgear router and hate it. I wish I had taken it back as soon as I had trouble. I also out sourced my problem and keep fooling with it, till it was to late to return it and the warranty ran out. Netgear is the hardest most difficult routers to deal with. May or may not work with AT & T DSL they will not tell you if that is the problem or not. Tell you it's your wireless phone or your neighbors who knows, In other words they do not know what causes these problems. Sorry for your trouble with Netgear.

My internet connects slows (211kbps) and drops off completely. AT&T says it's inside the home. Anyway to check the modem? I have unplugged and restarted it several times


More likely your telephone junction box outside your house has a bad wire connection - I've experienced the same problem before for my DSL. In addition, sometimes my phone line would go out as well - no dial tone. Listen to your phone and check if you have a dial tone when the Internet connection drops out - they may be associated.

No internet connection


Router set up is very easy. You will need to access the router set up interface to make changes on the router.

If you are not able to go online using the router then you will need to check the settings of the router.
First make sure that your computer is able to go online when connected directly to the modem without the router.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem only then your modem is working properly, we will need to check the settings of the router.find network key.


Router set up for Cable Internet service provider :

This connection type uses the MAC address of the main computer to identify your connection. They generally register the MAC address of the main computer. So the MAC address is everything in this connection type. Now we set up router using the MAC address of the main computer. Main computer is the computer which was able to go online through the modem. Use only the main computer to set uo the router.
Connect the modem and the computer to the router . Check the IP address on the computer.
According to the Default gateway value open the set up interface of the router. Once you open the set up interface, you will need to clone the MAC address of the computer. Then change the wireless settings on the router and your router is ready to go.

Router set up for DSL Internet service provider.

What is DSL connection?
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a high-speed Internet service that competes with cable Internet to provide online access to local customers. DSL operates over standard copper telephone lines like dial-up service, but is many times faster than dial-up. In addition to being faster than dial-up, DSL does not tie up the phone line. Coexisting with telephone service in this way allows users to surf the Net and use the phone at the same time.

There are two types of DSL connection

1 ) PPPOE : In this connection type you will get user name and password from the Internet service provider. Your computer will not be able to go online when connected to the modem only. You can open the router set up and change the Internet connection type to pppoe and type the user name and password for the ISP. After that change the wireless settings of the router and it will be ready to go.
2) DHCP : In this connection type your computer will be able to go online when you connect it directly to the modem.
you don't require the user anme and password for the ISP.
In this connection your computer will get a private IP address from the router. According to this the IP address of your router will change. Change the wireless settings of the router and it will be ready to go online.

I keep getting disconnect from xbox live every 10min


Online games do not work well over wireless. Switch to a wired connection, I believe you'll find the problem resolves itself.

I like linksys they have a website www.linksys.com and check your version number and see if its up to date the have most manuals for there routers there also is you need anymore help some games like starcraft work better if you punch holes in your firewall also if you use DSL your DSL modem will have to be setup to work with it also you may have to contact your internet provider depending on the situation to help get all ducks in a row if there modem might be the problem with the connection loss?
