Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hello, My Advent 7203 laptop has recently started overheating and I don't know why, but it gets very hot if I don't turn it off after a few minutes. The fan starts working during the start up sequence for a few seconds, but doesn't come back on as the computer warms up. I down loaded a piece of software that gives detailed info about the computer including the temperature. It shows that the computer warms up and warns of over heating when it reaches about 72 F at which point I witch it off. So the heat sensor must be working for the software to know what the temperature is. So either the temperature sensor isn't telling the fan to switch on or the fan isn't listening? What do you think? Thanks Annette

Ok 2 things are likely your the heatsink (the copper part of your computer that gets hot that you can see trough the grill) is blocked with dust try and clean it out with a vacuum or use a thin piece of plastic to poke it out, or your fan is broken.

can you see or hear the fan spinning? if it is then it is dust, CLEAN IT WOMAN!!!

Clean advent 5611 fan

Laptops are notorious for overheating. The fan and cooling vents also get clogged easily. Even a 'clean' place has some dust in the air, and it is attracted by the fan and static. Canned air will take care of some of it. Opening the laptop is complicated and not for the weak of heart. When the laptop is running, you'll feel air movement. spray through that vent with the laptop turned off.

i don't think there's anything wrong there...all laptop fans switch themselves on and off depending on the situation. the fans are normally off but when the temperature rises they turn on to cool off the laptops.

It has an overheating issue. Easiest way to fix is to buy a laptop cooler.

My screen on the advent roma 1000 goes dark

Hi,

The usual culprits are loose connections (this only happens when the lid is moved forwards or backwards). The other is the LCD inverter getting too hot.

In both cases you will need to disassemble the laptop lid to check the leads and the inverter itself for dry joints.

If you're not comfortable with disassembling the laptop yourself then i recommend that you take it to a reputable repair store to have it looked at.

Regards.

The fan goes on, loudly, for no apparent reason. The laptop is not overheated. It goes on and off for a few minutes, and then stops. This will happen a few times a day, and only started recently. My...

Sony laptops have a thermostat which monitors the heat internally. When it gets too hot, the fan will turn on, when the unit cools back down, it will then turn off. There is nothing to worry about.

Check the jack on the machine to see if it's loose or broken. Use a small screwdriver, and see if you can move it in any direction. If it is loose or broken, get it fixed imediately. A loose or broken jack can create an electrical arch which can do severe damage to the machine.
