I need to remove and replace a bit in my Craftsman 315.242070 router. I do not have the flat wrench the router came with. Does this router have a way to lock the shaft so I can loosen the collet to ge

They all do, its usually a small button or lever on the side of the motor, you need to depress it to lock the motor shaft, if its not locking right away, hold the lever in and turn the shaft until it locks in, then use any open end wrench that fits the nut to tighten/loosen the collar.

Where to purchase locking lever for Craftsman router?

If you are talking about the locking knob the part number is 999603001 and it lists for 2.99 and you can buy it from Searspartsdirect.com. If it is something else you can also use that site and type in your model number for a copy of the breakdown that I used.

How to attach 'plunge lock lever' to Bosch 1617 EVS router. I had this router replaced because of corrosion, when I opened the case the lever was detached from plunger. Tricky to attach, any suggestions

I have been repairing the Bosch tools for quite a few years and I still hate putting those levers on. Unfortunatly, there are no "tricks", you just have to set the spring in the lever then use a small screw driver to set the other end in its slot. Then try to rotate the whole thing untill the lever goes into the proper notch. It usually takes me 5 or 6 times to get it in, sometimes it goes in first time (rare). Sometimes I'm at it for 1/2 an hour.

Good Luck

I just received a 693 plunge router via internet order. As soon as i took out the plunge part out of the case and moved the lever it pupped up and now will not move up or down > Is there something I am...

The plunge base is spring loaded. When you move the lever is springs to the up position. To lower it place the base on a flat surface, press and hold the lever down and push down on the handles. The router bit height should be set on the depth rod with the base in the down position. Then release it to the up position. When you have positioned the bit where you want it on the work piece, press the lever and "plunge" the bit down into the workpiece. The depth rod setting will stop the bit at the depth you set it for.

Bosch 1613 vs router, plunge does not stay locked how do I fix it?

It looks like according to the breakdown that there is a hex head bolt under the release lever that when removed can be tightened some to keep it from moving. Before removing anything when you lock it are you putting some pressure on the lock handle. I have one at work that I have to push some on to snug it. If so I would recommend going to Boschtools.com and typing in your exact model number and it will take you to a page where you can look at all the parts involved (about 4) but the operators manual doesn't tell me a thing about agjustments.

I need help on how to replace bit on router craftsman style

You didn't state the model number. The older Craftsmen routers had a red lever lock on the top of the router, one position allows the spindle to turn, the other position locks the spindle. Here's the instruction for the older style routers:

  1. Unplug the tool.
  2. To lock the spindle press the red button in and slide it to the locked position.
  3. Unlock the height adjustment knob.
  4. Raise the router motor using the height adjustment collar until you can get a wrench onto the collet nut.
  5. Loosen the nut until it turns freely.
  6. The bit may still be locked in the spindle, tap it gently (not on the blade!).
  7. The bit will come loose in the spindle and can be removed.
  8. Replace the bit, tighten the nut snug but don't use excessive force.
  9. Unlock the spindle, returning the red lever/button to the free position.
  10. Adjust the height of the bit as you wish, then lock down the motor using the locking knob.

The plunge lock "slips" when the router is used in a table

You can try to adjust the lever that moves the plunge and see if that helps, but a plunge router isn't made for upside use. If you have the option and use the router upside down often, you may want to get a fixed base.
