Simple fix, this router is discontinued and you should take it back to the store to get a different one. Because it is a discontinued model they should easily refund or replace the item.

Locked up

Some brands of consumer routers are notorious for randomly locking up, dropping connections etc.

A quick fix would be to reset the router to factory defaults. This is done by pressing the RESET button for 30 seconds and reboot the router.

The best thing you can is to make sure you keep the firmware up to date. This is a file that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. The files are very specific so make sure you have the full model# and version of your router.

Once you have downloaded the firmware from Belkin's website, connect to you router with a wired connection (NOT wireless) and click on the option to upgrade software/firmware.

Firmware updates usually fix a whole slew of issues and should stop your router from locking up so often. Remember to enable security (WPA2 encryption) on your wireless network when you are finished with the upgrade, no reason to leave your network unsecured.

Belkin's website:

I Hope this helps,

Since its working hen you move the laptop close to it, its possible due to a variety of reasons including dust. Turn off and unplug the router and use compressed air into it(at a gentle level). Another thing I have noticed with my router is that if you use 24x7 it tends to overheat and it may cause the connection to drop. If this is the case unplugging the router for 5 mins to let it cool down and then connecting it again may help. Also keep the router away from stuff with magnetic fields(such as speakers). This has greatly reduced the number of connection drops I have with my router. If none of this works then you may have to get a new router.

My belkin n route is unsecured how do I fix this problem

No, you're not safe.
Disconnect your router from your cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Reset your router to "factory settings", which _are_ safe.

I cannot connect to the internet with the wireless router

I had the same problem when I switched to comcast from sbc you need to power down your modem and either press the reset button or remove the backup battery if it has one for about 30 seconds. power down your router as well. Connect everything back the way you want it and your modem will lock onto your router. You see, once the modem locks on you cannot simply plug it in to another component without restting it to open roam. Hope this helps.

My router is now locked and i didn't have it locked how do I unlock it

there is no lock down on belkin router.
do you have router portected? if not, some one lock your router.
the best ting to do is reset it to factory default. and start all over again.
to that :
With the router powered on, use a small thin object to press and hold the reset button for exactly seven seconds. The router lights will flash and this will restore the router to factory default. Connect your computer to one of the routers lan ports with an etherent cable. Open your web browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1. This should show the router status page with the default settings.
