Question about EliteGroup 648FX-A Motherboard

1 Answer

648FX-A Motherboard doesn't seem to work with P4 3.0Ghz

I have a 648FX-A working with a P4 2.66Ghz and recently bought a P4 3.0Ghz cpu so i could have a bit more out of the board. The problems is that it doesn't work with the 3.0 processor, the systems boots but nothing appears on screen, when i switch back it does ok. I recently bought a new psu too holding 500w, honestly i don't understand why this is happening. I've already upgraded to the latest bios to (1.0c) and the problem remains, reseted bios..
Thanks for any help

Looking up the motherboard online shows that it supports the 3.0Ghz processors but only the nothwood ones, not the prescott ones. and only up to 800Mhz side bus.

suport page:

Hope this helps, sorry if your cpu is a prescott, if it is a northwood RMA it for a new one.

Please provide further details. What happens when you press the power button? It does not automatically mean that your motherboard is failing.

648FX-A motherboard from EliteGroup

Hi,

Turn the computer off and remove the mains power lead. Open the case of the computer and expose the motherboard. Take out the BIOS battery for 10 minutes. The battery looks like this >>>>>

There also maybe a small plastic jumper next to the BIOS battery if you look close enough it should say CLR_CMOS under it. Move the plastic jumper to the other position and push the on/off button, that will clear the CMOS.

If there isn't don't worry, just leave the BIOS battery out for 10 minutes then put the battery back in. Close the case up and the BIOS password should be cleared.

Regards.

I have a problem with an overclock CPU Pentium 4 ( 2x200)motherboard asus 648fx-a.I change it in BIOS at 250 Mhz (first it was at 200 Mhz) and now he not run and I can enter in Bios. What can I do ?

There will be a jumper on the motherboard that you can pull/move that will reset the bios. another option is to unplug the power and pull the battery out of the board (looks like a standard watch battery). wait 15-30 seconds and reinsert the battery. turn the computer on, if the issue persists after this solution try again but wait longer after removing battery. if that doesnt work its possible you have damaged the computer.

Audio problem

Hi reynaldo_sos,

I'm not real sure that your problem is the motherboard. Have you checked to make sure that mute isn't on, and looked inside sound icon in your control panel to make sure that windows recongizes the sound card? If not, I'd check the easy stuff first. And if that doesn't work, you can find the drivers for that sound card HERE! Make sure that's the same version that you want.

Good Luck,

Mark

Bios is not loading up

try resetting the cmos jumper and see if that works, it could be a number of things, such as the cpu or motherboard itself
