Question about Nikon Coolpix 5600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Coolpix 5600 I accidently removed my memory card without powering down the camera. Consequently, my card was erased.  I've been informed by a professional photographer that the pics might be recoverable? Suggestions?

Put the card in your PC Card-reader for SD-cards (everybody has it nowadays - they're pretty cheap, get it if you ain't got it yet) and use any of the recovery programs available (lots of freeware on the web) for recovering your files.

You might be using a slow SD card and your camera is buffering the data waiting for the slow speed card to catch up. Try a faster memory card. I would suggest an SDSC card. They have a much faster write speed.

Camera does not recogonize a memory card?

Make sure you're using SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards max out a 2GB. If your cards are larger than 2GB then they will not work in the 5600.

Coolpix s8100 technical support my camera dropped and broke so I was given a replacement. When I insert memory card from other camera and try to take pics, a message reads, "file contaisn no image...

First, get a card reader (they're very cheap) and use it to download the pics from the card. Then, re-insert the card into the camera and go into the menu and find "format"....follow the on-screen instructions to completely erase the card and optimize it for your new camera.

How do i delete all pictures off my camera

  1. Press the play button--which features a picture of a solid triangle in the middle of a rectangle--on the backside of the camera.
  2. Press the "menu" button to access the playback menu.
  3. Rotate the multi-selector dial to scroll the menu cursor to the "delete" option represented by a trash can.
  4. Scroll to the option "erase all images" and press the "OK" button on the backside of the camera.
  5. Scroll to the "yes" option on the confirmation dialogue and press the "OK" button on the backside of the camera. If a removable SD memory card is inside the camera, the camera will delete all of the photos on the card. If there is no SD memory card, the camera will delete all photographs in the internal memory.

Will my Coolpix 5600 use SDHC SanDisk cards?

Sorry to say, but . . . No!

Cnet Reviews shows the specifications on your camera.
2167fde.jpg It only goes so far as SD memory, which is limited to 2GB.
It's a hurdle technology manufacturers had to jump, and now consumers must jump also.

Nikon Coolpix 4600: Problem: It won't take any photos, it reads: THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED. The card is 128 MB. I purchased a new card: 2GB but it won't work also. My manual says to clean the contacts...

1) Have you formatted the cards?

2) Try the cards in the card reader in your computer to see if they can be read.

3) Try the "switch off camera - remove and replace battery - switch on camera" trick with the original 128 Mb card in place. This will reset the camera's memory.

4) Note the type of card is important - not all cards can be used in a camera (especially some of the latest bigger ones) - check the type of cards supported by your camera.

I found this at the Nikon USA site (note that the 2 GB card is not listed - as said "Cards are not all the same" and use different drivers to operate them):

Question Which Secure Digital Cards are approved for use in the Coolpix 4600/5600? trnsp.gif Answer The Nikon Quality Department has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 4600/5600:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB, 512MB*, 1 GB
Panasonic 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB*,1 GB
Toshiba 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 128 MB*, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB

*High speed type of 10 MB/s or over

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-
party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.

USB not recognized, no safe removal icon, wont switch off

I had the same problem. Nothing seemed to help, I even re-installed Nikon View. This helped, though. After you've connected the USB cable to both computer and camera, twist the camera end of the cable towards front of the camera. It seems like either the cable or the socket in the camera is damaged.
