Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Open Question

Hello, I have Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G router and a new modem from comcast. At my old apartment I had Comcast and my router worked perfectly with the old modem. Now in my new place my router isn’t working. When I plug the cable from the modem to my macbook the internet works. When I plug a cable from my modem to the router to the macbook laptop… it doesn’t work. When I pull up available networks on my macbook I can see my server listed there – but it won’t connect. The internet light on the router does flash when I plug it in and the orange light is lit up on the router. I tried unplugging the modem but the lights continue to stay on – I waited 15 minuted and 2 of the 12 or so were still on…. Weird. I tried resetting my laptop and pulling the power on the router as well. Do I need to reinstall the software? Thanks for the help in advance. - Dave

It didn't work for me.
Should the username be the email address from At&t that controls the DSL line, or should it be the username to get into the Netopia modem?

SOURCE: Why does this keep happening??? Please advise...

Your modem is set to only allow one main IP address, which it assigned to your laptop.

Connect the cables through the router, then unplug first the modem, then the router.

Wait 45 seconds, then plug in router, wait 5 seconds, then plug in modem.

Give it a few seconds to talk to everything, and you should be good to go.

SOURCE: No more internet thru router after new modem installed

Router setup
Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the Comcast cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line.

Did Comcast reset you wireless router settings? If so, you may need to set up your SSID and security settings.

Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Forgot user id for router

Look on the back of your router for a url (numerical Web address) that is the format of 123.456.7.8 In your PC Internet browser put said url in address bar and connect to your router. Your user id should be on the first page. If you have forgotten your password contact your service provider to reset.
However your user ID and preset password should be on the sticker on the back of your router. If none of this works contact your service provider.

I cannot connect with linksys wireless router

From your description, you appear to be connected to the router fine.

Try powering down the modem from Comcast for about 2 minutes then power it back up. If it doesn't come back, call Comcast service as it is likely on their end.

Hope this helps.

Ps3

Are you going to connect your PS3 wired to your router or wireless?
1. check first if ps3 is working behind rca modem.
2. then connect a pc directly to your linksys router
3. open configuration page of linksys by typing your gateway on your browser. (usually it is by default 192.168.1.1)
4. go to applications and gaming tab
5. you'll find there port forwarding..key in your number there
> i guess your numbers are like 88 and 3764 (something like that)
6. if your trying to connect your playstation wirelessly, you need to know your wireless security (if your router is secured).
> go to wireless tab and look for wireless security
> get your key
7. go back to playstation and try to view your wireless network
> connect and type in your key

=)
