If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

How do I fix my tv?

Hello. It sounds like either the CCFL lamp is gone or a power supply issue. With the unit on and holding a lamp at an angle against the screen you might be able to see if there's any image on the display. In either case, you'll need to open it up and check the power supply with a multimeter, look at the inverter, or have the CCFL tube checked as well. Usually the power supplies go bad as they're not made to last long, but I've also seen the CCFL tube as well as the inverter go bad. The inverter and CCFL are cheap to buy, but the CCFL tube is a real treat to replace and not something you should undertake if you're not familiar with it. However, with the constantly dropping price of LCD tv's, it might be cheaper to buy a new one as it should be about $120-199 USD/CDN in many stores for another unit of comparable quality and size. If you have done this type of work before, then check the power supply, and if its good then pickup a new inverter and CCFL through many online sources and give it a try. At this point you can either completely distroy the LCD panel or get it working again, for cheap. Good luck.

I have sam 51on lcd moniter with dim display problem

The screen displays is dark/ dim because there is no backlight.
There are two parts responsible for lighting the display. First is the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp), which is the back light and the second is the Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. Either of the parts can be faulty or in some rare cases both.
In most of such cases that I received for repair, it was Invertor. Inspect the Invertor for any apparant physical damages (burnt coil or circuit components etc). Inverter can be checked by disconnecting the present CCFL and connecting a fresh/ working CCFL (Backlight) before actually removing the CCFL as it is difficult and unnecessary to take it out if its not the fault.

I SUGGEST THAT YOU SEEK PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE FROM AUTHORISED SERVICE/ REPAIR CENTER FOR REPLACEMENT OF CCFL OR INVERTER.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

My notepad is switching on fine, but the screen is very faint (dark) i'm trying to find out whether its the backing bulb or the FL inverter. Need advice?

Hi Danny,
Either of the parts can be faulty or in some rare cases both. In most of such cases (HP-Compaq) that I received for repair, it was Invertor.

So, my advice is that you check the LCD display for replacement of Inverter . I have found a general link about CCFL replacement. Click here for detailed and graphical DIY instructions about LCD disassembly.
Make sure you take proper precaution while working inside LCD, as the inverter generates a very high voltage.
IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED WITH WORKING INSIDE SUCH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS, I SUGGEST THAT YOU SEEK PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE FROM AUTHORISED SERVICE/ REPAIR CENTER FOR REPLACEMENT OF CCFL OR INVERTER.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

The backlight on my gateway m 6750 is out. i think it is the lidswitch but can't find it. can someone tell me where the switch is located on my laptop.thanks

Hi,
The LCD screen displays is dark/ dim (faint display that can be seen in sunlight or torchlight) because there is no backlight.
There are two parts responsible for lighting the display. First is the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp), which is the back light and the second is the Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. Either of the parts can be faulty or in some rare cases both. But most likely it is the CCFL (Lamp). Its life is limited and depending upon how long it has been in use, you can have a better idea - if its the CCFL or Inverter.
(You can check it by connecting you PC with some external display, which would work fine). (Hence, the board/ graphics processor is OK. In case the graphics processor fails, there is no display at all on the external monitor).
The LCD display switch in inside the modern laptop and its function is that it completely shuts down the display (no light as well as image).
So, my advice is that you check the LCD display for replacement of CCFL. I have found a general link about CCFL replacement. Click here for detailed and graphical DIY instructions about LCD disassembly.

My w1907 monitor is too dark to see anything without a flashlight

Your backlight is gone. LCDs usually use CCFL (Cold cathode Fluorescent Lamp) for backlight, maybe it's your CCFL power inverter (power supply for the CCFLs) or the CCFLs themself.. You probably won't be able to fix that for yourself :(
