Question about Clarke Power Products Clarke 16-Speed Drill Press with Laser Centering Device # BT102

1 Answer

I need a chuck key for my Clarke 5/8" drill press, model BT1001. It's quite old but still works well. My only problem is I've misplaced the key, making it very difficult to change the bits. Thanks.

You should be able to find a universal key that has four keys on it. ace hardware or local hardware should have it. if not call your local tool store to see what they have for similar chucks.

Take it to a local engineering sales shop. They are all basically the same and fit into the shaft with a morse taper. You just need the correct taper.

it needs to be reseated and to do that you will need to clean the shaft and the internal portion of the chuck with something like brake clean and use a paper towel to wipe off the residue, then move the table out of the way and get a block of wood and hammer, retract the jaws fully and position the chuck and put the block of wood under it and strike it with a hammer a couple times this should take care of your problem

I have a Clarke BT 1001A and need a new chuck. The original never worked properly. Kept jamming. Where can I get a new chuck. 1/2 inch. The drill press is great.

you should be able to look in the phone book under tools repair find one locally, on the chuck you have it should give you some number like 33BA or 2 Jacobs, you will need this information to make sure that you get the right one, I would try and find a Jacobs chuck for this, they make the better ones, I have used them as replacements for 26 years and the companies that I worked for prefer them. Let me know if you have trouble finding one and I would need that information also.

I need a chuck wrench/tool for a duracraft drill press

Are you talking about the chuck key? That's the little wrench with a collar of gear teeth on it.
There are only a few standard sizes plus a couple of odd-balls. Last time I looked, Sears carried a good selection. If you have the old one, take it with you to the store. If you don't have the old one, find a way to measure or approximately measure what you need. Another chuck key that doesn't fit can be a useful reference. If you can find something (maybe a drill bit) that is a close fit into one of the three holes in the chuck, that can be useful too.

    Remove and replace the chuck

Most drill press chucks are held on with a screw. Open the chuck all the way. Look inside the chuck, there should be a screw in the bottom. Some are left hand threads, some are not. Good Luck
