When you push the status button after the alarm system has triggered, what message does it give you. That should tell you what is triggering.

Alarm is armed but when door is opened no siren

Is there power to the siren? Are the lights flashing? Can you choose to have the siren on or off? If the lights flash and there is no power to the siren it may be the controller. If you have power to the siren then make sure you have good ground at the siren even if you have to run a ground wire from it

I have a Ge Simon Xt Alarm and i want to hook up a external siren(part 13-950)I received a 4.7 resister with the siren and 50 ft of wire. How do you attach the resister between the red and black wire?Do...

Wire nuts are ok if the siren is indoors. Gel filled connectors are better if you are mounting the siren outside because they keep the connection from corroding. The resistor needs to go between the two wires you are hooking up. The color of the wires you will are are generally red and black. If your siren has a yellow wire, you can use it instead of the red to get constant siren instead of the "whoop, whoop, whoop" sound that sirens usually make. Putting the resistor at the siren will make sure that it is supervised. That means that if someone cuts the wire going to the siren, it will alert you at the panel. If you put the resistor at the panel, nothing will happen if the wire is cut.

Hi! Just had ADT install security system and it is a Simon XT. Door units, motion sensors and control unit are in house. They also put a motion sensor in garage, which is detached. My understanding is...

My understanding is that GE does not produce a wireless interior siren any longer. So if yo want to get a siren in the garage a wire will have to be run from the Simon 3 to the location in the garage where you would like to place the siren. PS ADT will not run wires to a detached garage. GL

The alarm doesn't sound when the alarm is tripped

This can be caused by either a blown siren power fuse on the motherboard or a blown voice coil in your siren. It would be best to have someone with an electronic background check this with a volt/ohm meter. If voltage is present at the siren during an alarm but there isn't any sound then you will need to replace the siren. On the other hand if no voltage is measured then you need to find and replace the fuse that sends voltage out from the motherboard to the siren.

Siren does not sound when alarm is tripped, is this something I can correct myself or do I need a tech to come out?

You either have a blown fuse for the siren output or the siren's voice coil is blown. If you are able to open the control panel (they are normally locked) check for fuses on the motherboard (main circuit board) and have them checked. If you have a continuity or meter that measures resistance remove each fuse, check and replace as needed. If the siren's voice coil is blown you will need to replace it with a new one. Some systems use a speaker and some use a siren. Both are different and you will need to determine this first before relpacing.

Alarm goes off went armed as well as strobe won't go into armed mode

Smoke sensors will trip if dust accumulates in them. Get a can of compressed air like they sell for cleaning the vents in computers and try blowing the dust out. That should reset your sensors, If not you could disable the fire sensors for your trip and get it serviced when you return.

Todd, when you trip the system does it seize the phone line. (meaning does it cut off the plone line to your house phones.) if not you have a wiring problem. also security systems are designed to talk to the monitoring stations reciever on standard pots(annalog) phone lines, not on a dsl line with out a dsl filter. not over voip lines,. you may want to see if your monitoring station can connect to your system remotly. any good security company should be able to do this for you. if they cant you may want to look for a new company.
