Question about Rowenta Irons

Open Question

I have a Rowenta ultra professional - model DM991G - I just discovered the cord seems to have broken where it comes out of the iron - it melted the rubber thing & gets extremely hot. I am not using it and wonder if the cord can be replaced or if I need a new iron ? Christine Francis

SOURCE: Brown spots coming from steam iron

you can mix 50% water with 50% vinager let it set in the iron overnight then turn it on and let the steam run out. What happens is the inside of the iron where the water is had corroded or rusted or has lime deposits.the vinager will break this loose overnight.also after you let the iron steam out all the mixture, flush the iron 4 to 5 times and start using fresh water from a store bought gallon.your tap water is probably full of iron.

SOURCE: Cleaning the bottom of my rowenta irom.

Hi,

Rowenta does sell a soleplate cleaner kit. But if you must do it yourself, I use nothing but Q-tips, a wooden orange/popsicle stick to genly scrape the tough brown stuff...and finish it off with "Dutch" cleanser, and old cotton sock, either dry or with a tiny bit of filtered drinking water. Do not use anything stronger, as the soleplate can be easily scratched.

SOURCE: Rowenta Steam Iron Leak

Yes, my rowenta model DX6700 is also leaking from the heal. I bought this iron after having a GE for ten years because I thought it would iron my clothes better. I've had it less than two years. How frustrating!!!!!!

SOURCE: I have a Rowenta 1700

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.

SOURCE: need to know how to clean a rowenta iron plate

As long as it's not a coated surface - plain steel - get 0000 steelwool to rub it with. It will take some elbow grease but it will work to clean and (almost) polish the surface.

Power cord on rowenta dm991 is split- needs a new one- can I do this myself?

On the end of the iron there are 2 screws - remove them; on the bottom of the end there is a small slot - put a small screw driver in the slot and pull on the end; you will find the wire that goes into the iron - get a replacement from an iron shop and you are good to go!

Rowenta Iron-Professional Luxe The power cord seems to short out when you move iron. You can wiggle it next to the movable ball and it clicks on and off. The two screw heads on bottom appear to be special...

I drilled out the nubs in the center of the screws. removed the screws, and took off the back plate. The problem is that the cord seems to be abraiding when it swivels, and eventually wears thru. It seems like a fire hazard and should be looked into by Rowena. Anyway, I cut out the damaged cord and reattached it. Problem fixed..

My rowenta stopped heating , mid-shirt!!......now it seems dead and wont heat at all !.........thanks !!!

The most likely cause is a broken wire in the cord. Replacement should only be done by a qualified electrical appliance repairer. Ask for a quote as it may be cheaper to buy a new iron!

My Rowenta Professional will not come on.

Yes, there is a broken wire inside of the cord. This is a potentially dangerous situation for you as it could result in a deadly shock or a fire. The cord can be replaced for about $25.00 at a repair shop. Therefore, it may be more logical to trash this iron and get a new one.

Either way, good luck.
