Question about Maytag M7DH65B2A Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Unit seemed to be emitting hot air. Ran it continuously but did not accumulate much water as in prior years. Yesterday, motor made a very loud noise and sounded like it was going to explode. I, of course, disconnected unit.

Dehumidifyer runs but no water is accumulating in pail, completly dry. sounds like fan is just running, it ran and worked fine last yeay. cleaned the filter allready.

Usually there are 5 basic causes for what you have described. They are all solvable. Pay particular attention to number 1.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, remove and clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to clean
the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees F. Dehumidifiers do not work
well between those temperatures (Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
basement applications, where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level.
Raising the unit up off the floor, onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks

I have H. Bay model HB40F dehumidifier. It does not seem to ever actually start the compressor. There is a plastic box on the side of the compressor that contains a couple of coily looking things. It...

It is probably the start device(the coil looking things), as long as you don't hear the compressor humming. A loud hum is a lock compressor and the cost would be far greater than a new unit.

My dehumidifier suddenly does not remove any water from the air. It worked perfectly last summer and just sat in the basement unplugged over the winter. I plugged it in a few days ago and it has been...

It may simply be a case that the air intake filter needs cleaning, as do the condenser coils. This is recommended maintenance, prior to using the dehumidifier for the first time each season. Also, the air temperature at floor level, may be to cool for it operate properly. Particularly, if it's below 60 degrees. the unit up off the floor and placing it on something sturdy, will help solve that issue.

After cleaning the unit, as stated above, try placing it upstairs where the temperature will be warmer and allow it to run at it's lowest humidity extraction level. That's usually 35%. If it functions properly upstairs, then you will know that it's an air temperature issue in the basement.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Not collecting water

If everything is running and no water is being produced the system may have lost its refrigerant. There are two motors in dehumidifiers. One is the fan and the other is the compressor. Make sure they are both running.

Problem with fan

just replace the fan motor is the proper fix. you may dissasemble the fan motor and it may run for a while but the cost of a compressor is not worth the cost of the fan motor

Does not collect water

ok Carmo

first remove the back of the unit and turn it on. it sounds like the fan motor may not be working.there by making the dehum get hot. make sure your filter and coils are cleaned. you may need a new motor. if so buy a new motor and fan blade.be careful with the 5/16th nut holding the fan blade. the blade might look good but you have to check the hole where it rides on the motor shaft. if you into the hole it should look like the letter "D" because the motor shat is shaped that way.---good luck
