NTLDR file is needed to start a computer. So in such situation you need to repair windows. To do so:
1. Insert the cd into the drive.
2. Restart computer, it will show "boot from CD........." on the screen. Just press enter key to boot it from CD.
3. And then repair it.
4. Restart it once again to complete the process.

How do i get missing ntldr back

you are missing a key boot file for windows that is special to XP.

Load your installation disk.
.
restart your computer and when the F2 setup appears in right bottom corner (right after starting) press the F8 key (couple of times) and choose CDrom drive. (if you miss, try CTRL ALT DELETE--to reboot and try again.

(if that does not work, you will have to go into F2 setup and tell the computer to boot from the CDROM--you will find it by looking on each tab for a list of CDROM, Hard Drive, and listing of boot disk priority. Save you change by exiting BIOS set with F10.

At this point you can choose R for repair.
windows should repair itself. Once done, PC will reboot and you should be good.

** if other files are suddenly missing or other weird things, I would recommend a new install of windows. You should have up to date files for antivirus and malware.

How To: Fix "NTLDR is missing"

Applies to: Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP

Symptoms

When you start your computer, you receive the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart."

Cause

The error message "NTLDR is missing" means that the Windows boot loader (NT Loader, NTLDR) cannot be found. This oftenoccurs when the computer tries to boot from a drive other than the one Windows is installed on, due to a change in the driveconfiguration or because you left a bootable disk in a removable drive. But it may also be because the NTLDR file has beencorrupted or deleted.

SolutionCheck the boot drives

First, check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one thatcontains Windows.

  • Check that there are no CDs or DVDs in the CD/DVD drives.
  • Check that no removable drives are plugged in to the USB ports.
  • Check the boot order in the BIOS Setup to ensure that the computer boots from the drive containing Windows before any other bootable devices.

If this does not resolve the problem, you will have to repair the NT boot loader.

Fix NTLDR

The easiest way to fix the "NTLDR is missing" error is to use Spotmau PowerSuite. However, if your computer is using Windows XP and you have a Windows XP installation CD you may be able to boot from this anduse the Recovery Console to fix NTLDR manually instead.

Use Spotmau PowerSuiteInsert the Spotmau PowerSuite CD and start the computer. The main menu will appear.spotmau-2.gif
  • Click 2. Windows Recovery.

  • On the Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Recovery dialog, click Recover NTLDR and NTDETECT.

  • On the Recover NTLDR and NTDETECT dialog, select your operating system (e.g. Windows XP) and then click Recover.

The tool will repair the file and report "NTLDR and NTDETECT have been recovered successfully."

  • Remove the Spotmau PowerTools CD from the drive and click Restart to reboot the computer.

Your cd drive letter you need to figure out. Here I am taking it as d:\
or make sure you below command runs by changing drive letter if not able to determine CD drive letter

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\

Restart the computer and it should work.

Else, again boot from CD ignore Repair option to go in recovery console, and hit enter. It will show you the agreement . Press F8 to accept . Next screen will show you option to repair to continue to fresh installation.
Here press "R" to repair. Not sit back it will take time to repair complete system.

CANT BOOT FOR REINSTALLATION OF XP, IT SEZ "NTLDR" IS MISSING, ALSO MENTIONS SOMETHING ABOUT THE HARD DRIVE NOT WORKING

If you have the OS disks try a repair first. Run the OS disk and choose the repair option rather than reformatting. That usually fixes ntldr issues.

Computer crashed and will not restore.

if u tried installing windows from a CD onto the HDD and it still says missing ntldr. seems like a Bad hard-drive.

you can restart by pressing control-alt-delete.

then, try booting from windows CD and repairing the windows installation. if it gives u file copy errors.then, it is a HDD failure. get a new HDD.
